The West Marshall Fusion Baseball team scored four runs in both the third and fourth inning on their way to a 9-6 victory over the Barnesville Trojans as part of the Jim Karn Baseball Classic in Crookston.
Barnesville took an early lead with a run in the second inning. Caleb Jablonsky singled and advanced to second base on a balk, and stole third base. After a John Roller walk, Asher O’Brien singled to score a run and the Trojans led 1-0 lead.
West Marshall got things going in the top of the third inning when Will McGlynn led off with a single and Mike Jacobson tripled to score a run to tie the game at 1-1. Jason Lindgren followed with a single to score another run for a 2-1 lead. Lindgren advanced to second on a bad throw, stole third base and scored on a wild pitch for a 3-1 lead. Demetrius Oberg walked, stole second base, advanced to third on Ty Winge single and came into score on a passed ball for a 4-1 lead.
Barnesville answered in the bottom of the inning with another run. Peyton Pauna walked and stole second base and came into score on a Carson Hagen ground out to get within a 4-2 deficit.
In the top of the fourth inning, West Marshall had another big inning. Jackson Kekke and McGlynn walked to start the inning and both scored on a Mike Jacobson single for a 6-2 lead. Jason Lindgren doubled and Oberg followed with a big double to score two more runs for a 8-2 lead.
Barnesville responded with a crooked number in the bottom of the inning. Roller got things goin with a lead off walk, O’Brien and Morey followed with singles to score a run. Pauna followed with a single and Carson Hagen knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. A few pitches later, Morey scored on a wild pitch to get within a 8-5 deficit.
Barnesville added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Roller walked, stole second base, advanced to third base on an error and scored on a passed ball to get within an 8-6 deficit.
West Marshall added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Lindgren singled, stole second base, and stole third base. Lindgren scored on a Brandon Kroll sacrifice fly for a 9-6 lead.
West Marshall brought in Jason Lindgren to pitch the bottom of the seventh inning and he struck out two batters and didn’t give up a hit or a run and the Fusion held on for the 9-6 victory.
West Marshall improves to 2-3 on the year with two wins on the day. Barnesville drops to 2-5 on the year.
