WINTER STORM WARNING ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF NW MINNESOTA WITH UP TO 11 INCHES OF SNOW

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a Winter Storm Warning for portions of northwest and west-central Minnesota and eastern North Dakota from 3:00 p.m. on December 26 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 27.

The warning Includes the Minnesota cities of Crookston, East Grand Forks, Ada, Twin Valley, Halstad, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Breckenridge, Fergus Falls, Perham, New York Mills, Parkers Prairie, Henning, and Battle Lake.

The warning includes the North Dakota cities of Cando, Langdon, Cavalier, Walhalla, Drayton, Pembina, Neche, St. Thomas, Fort Totten, Maddock, Leeds, Minnewaukan, Devils Lake, Grafton, Park River, New Rockford, Lakota, Mcville, Aneta, Tolna, Grand Forks, Cooperstown, Finley, Hope, Mayville, Hillsboro, Hatton, Portland, Valley City, Fargo, Lisbon, Enderlin, Gwinner, Milnor, Forman, Rutland, Wahpeton, Edinburg, Adams, and Lankin

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 PM CST MONDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 11 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE…Portions of northwest and west-central Minnesota and northeast and southeast North Dakota.

* WHEN…From 3 PM this afternoon to 6 PM CST Monday.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
