CROOKSTON REDS SHUTOUT MOORHEAD

The Crookston Reds Amateur Baseball team scored in the top of the first inning and had an outstanding pitching performance from Blake Karas to beat the Moorhead Miners 4-0 in a game played in Moorhead.
The Reds scored a run in the first inning, but they squandered a chance to break the game open.  Cody Magsam led off the game when he reached on an error, Will Zimmerman was hit by a pitch and Bailey Schmitz walked to load the bases.   After a Red was picked off, Tanner Reinhart reached on an error and Zimmerman scored to give Crookston a 1-0 lead.  The next batter struck out and a Red was picked off at second base and the Reds threat was done.
Crookston started a two-out rally in the third inning when Zimmerman was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Schmitz single for a 2-0 lead.  The Reds didn’t score again until the seventh inning and added two insurance runs when Alex LaFrance and Magsam had back-to-back singles.  Schmitz singled and scored LaFrance and Magsam to give Crookston a 4-0 lead.
Blake Karas (the East Grand Forks Sacred Heart Activities Director) pitched an outstanding game, going all nine innings and scattering five hits and striking out eight batters on the way to the complete game shutout victory and the 4-0 league win.
The Reds improve to 9-11 on the year and 4-3 in league play.   Crookston will host the talented Bemidji Blue Ox Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m.
