The Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Dinner has been held in Crookston for more than 40 years and will be held Thursday, November 28, in the Cathedral Dining Room. Dinner will be served beginning at 12:30 p.m. The meal is offered free of charge, and Sue Wilkens said it’s about a non-denominational meal, with plenty of food. “We want everybody to feel comfortable,” said Wilkens. “Just come up, even if it’s Thanksgiving Day, and you didn’t contact us, show up. We make everything from scratch. It’s probably overkilling. I think we’re doing 14 turkeys this year. We do over 150 pounds of potatoes, and we’re adding to the dressing from last year. We’re offering some gluten-free items this year, that’s new. Pretty much everything is going to made and prepared up at the Cathedral just so people are aware that it’s made under sanitary questions if you want or whatever, but it’s all going to be done up at the Cathedral.”
There is takeout if someone is sick and can’t make it, but Wilkens said they want people to come and spending time socializing with other people as a community. “We do offer some to-go,” said Wilkens. “Like we had a lady call and said I’m too sick to leave home. Well, that we understand, so we can, but we want the community effect. We want you to come up and enjoy it with other people. And have a good social time. It makes the day a little bit shorter when you can get out of the house for a while.”
Those planning on attending, especially with larger families or groups, are asked to call ahead, so accommodations for seating can be arranged by calling 218-281-5727 through Wednesday. On Thanksgiving Day, call 218-289-1956. Those interested in helping with the dinner can also call those two numbers.
