CROOKSTON REDS BEAT DILWORTH

The Crookston Reds won their fifth straight game thanks in part to seven errors committed by the Dilworth Raildogs in a 7-4 win in a Red River Amateur Baseball League game played at Bob Marshall Field in Dilworth.

Crookston’s offense continued to roll with the momentum of a 15-run performance on Friday by scoring in the opening inning on Sunday. In the top of the first inning, Will Zimmerman opened the frame by reaching on an error at shortstop. Zimmerman stole second base before advancing to third base on a wild pitch. Catcher’s obstruction allowed Matt Morin to reach putting runners on the corners before Bailey Schmitz singled to plate Zimmerman giving the Reds a 1-0 lead. A Dave Grabowski single loaded the bases for Crookston, but two infield pop-ups ended the inning with the Reds leaving the bases loaded with just one run in the inning. Crookston added to its lead in the top of the third inning with some more help from the Raildogs. Dave Grabowski started the inning by reaching on an error before Lars Brevik hit a single to put runners on first and second base. An error by Connor Robley on the mound allowed Blake Kawleski to reach while Grabowski scored. Another error, this one at second base put Mike Hajostek on base safely while Brevik scored to complete the two-run inning with the Reds’ lead up to 3-0 after three innings. Crookston added two more runs in the fourth inning. Bailey Schmitz reached base on Dilworth’s seventh error of the game followed by a Dave Grabowski single. Lars Brevik cleared the bases with a double plating both Schmitz and Grabowski to take a 5-0 lead after four innings. The Reds added to their lead again in the fifth inning. Mike Hajostek started the inning by reaching on a dropped third strike before advancing to second base on a passed ball. A groundout moved Hajostek over to third base from which he would score on a passed ball to grow Crookston’s lead to 6-0. With the Reds offense rolling, Sean Minder was equally impressive on the mound tossing a complete game in the sweltering heat while the Raildogs to just five hits in the game to help extend Crookston’s winning streak to five games. The Reds added some more insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning following a pair of singles, Jackson Seibel doubled to plate Joe Kvidt extending the lead to 7-0. Minder labored through the final inning due to poor defense behind him. Dilworth started the inning with Jake Salentine reaching on an error. He was driven home on an RBI single. A single followed by an error loaded the bases before another infield error allowed the Raildogs to cut the deficit to 7-2. A fielder’s choice plated Dilworth’s third run of the inning while also providing Crookston with its second out of the frame. A strikeout ended the ninth inning rally as the Reds hung on for a 7-4 victory.

The Reds improve to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in league games and will return to the diamond for a Red River Amateur Baseball League game on Wednesday to host the Ada A’s at 8 p.m. a game that can be heard on KROX with the Riverview Health Pregame show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dilworth falls to 3-6 in league games.
