UMC MEN’S BASKETBALL STRONG START TAKES THEM TO A 68-60 WIN OVER MIDWESTERN STATE

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team started right out of the beginning of the game to take a lead over Midwestern State University of Wichita Falls, Texas and made it stand up in the second half and ended with a 68-60 win to make it a sweep at the Northern State Class in Aberdeen, S.D.

Midwestern State took an 18-17 lead in the first half but UMC came back in the half to outscore the Mustangs 12-3 the rest of the first half to take a 29-21 lead. UMC would not relinquish that lead for the second half matching Midwestern State the entire go and the closest the Mustangs would get would be 66-60 and UMC would add a couple of free throws courtesy of Brian Sitzmann (Sr-Prior Lakes) to win 68-60 for their third win in a row and go 4-3 on the season. The Golden Eagles were led in scoring by Ethan Channel (Jr-Beaverton, Oregon) with 14 points and five rebounds while Uzo Dibiamaka (Soph-Adelaide, South Australia) contributed 12 and two more were in double figures with 11 points each were Nathaniel Powell (Soph-Nottingham, England) Sitzmann. UMC’s shooting was spot on at 43% and made 10 three-point shots.

The Golden Eagles are 4-3 overall and they are also 1-0 in the Northern Sun Conference. The Golden Eagles will come home and get back in the Northern Sun Conference hosting St. Cloud State Thursday night and traveling to Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. Midwestern State University is 2-4 on the season.
