CROOKSTON LEGION BASEBALL FALLS TO FERTILE

The Crookston American Legion Post #20 Baseball team hosted Fertile, where they would fall by a score of 11-0.

GAME ONE-

FIRST INNING
Fertile’s Bryan Strem drew a lead-off walk. The next two batters were retired before Tyler Stuhaug hit an rbi single to give Fertile a 1-0 lead. One more batter would be walked before Croo
kston got the third out.
Crookston began the inning with a lead-off single from Lucas Miller. Miller was caught stealing and anot
her Crookston batter was retired. Ashton Larson would hit a two-out single before the third Crookston batter was retired leaving the game at 1-0.

SECOND INNING
Fertile began the inning with a pair of lead-off walks from Gavin Aakhas and Teagyn Johnson. The next batter would strikeout before Bryan Stern drew another walk to load the bases. Crookston almost turned an inning ending double play on the next batter, but the runner at first was called safe and a run scored. A throwing error would allow another run to score, giving Fertile a 3-0 lead before the last out was recorded.
Crookston began the inning with a lead-off double from Tanner Geise, who would get to third base off of a wild pitch. Jacks
on Demarais hit what looked like a sacrifice fly to right field, but a great throw by Steven Sather got Geise out at home. The next Crookston batter would be retired to keep the game at 3-0.

THIRD INNING
Fertile began the inning with a lead-off walk from Tyler Stuhaug. The next batter was retired
before Caleb Sather would hit a bloop single. Gavin Aakhas then hit an rbi single to extend Fertile-Beltrami’s lead to 4-0. Teagyn Johnson would draw another walk to load the bases before a wild pitch brought another run home to make it 5-0 Fertile. The next two Fertile-Beltrami batters would be retired, ending the inning.
The first two Crookston batters were retired. Lucas Miller, George Widman and Ashton Larson would all draw walks but Fertile would retire the next batter ending the threat.

FOURTH INNING
Fertile would draw a lead-off walk before the next batter grounded into a double play. The third batter would strikeout, ending the inning.
Crookston’s Tanner Geise and Jackson Demarais would reach base on walks and Geise would steal third. The next batter would attempt to avoid being hit by a pitch, but in the process the ball hit the bat and went fair. The out was made at first, which gave Geise a chance to score. It appeared that Geise was safe but the umpire called runner interference on Geise and the run did not count. Nate Kelly would reach on an error before Parker Kelly drew a walk to load the bases. Fertile would get the out
on the next batter and end the threat.

FIFTH INNING
Preston Hansen would b
egin the inning with a single for Fertile. Caleb Sather would reach on an error. Gavin Aakhas drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Teagyn Johnson would then draw a walk to bring in a run to make it 6-0. Crookston got the next batter out on a fielder’s choice at home. Fertile’s next three batters, Bryan Stern, Steven Sather and Easton Petry would all draw bases loaded walks, bringing in three more runs, to make it a 9-0 ballgame. Fertile’s next batter, Easton Petry, would get an rbi fielder’s choice. Preston Hanson and Caleb Sather would each draw walks bringing in one more run, making the score 11-0. Crookston would then get the third out to end the inning.
Crookston’s first batter George Widman would draw a lead-off walk. The next Crookston batter flew out, and they were able to throw Widman out at 1st for the double play. The third Crookston batter was retired, ending the game in five innings.

Crookston falls to Fertile by a score of 11-0, bringing their record to 11-8. Crookston’s next game is in Red Lake Falls on July 6th.
