CROOKSTON PIRATES BOYS HOCKEY FALLS TO DETROIT LAKES 7-1

The Crookston Pirates Boys Hockey team fell to the Detroit Lakes Lakers at Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes in a Section 8A Quarterfinal game, 7-1. 

FIRST PERIOD
In the first period, Detroit Lakes got off to a fast start as Cole Deraney scored for the Lakers to make it an early 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, Easton Kennedy scored for Detroit Lakes to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Crookston would get called for a penalty later, but 15 seconds after that, Detroit Lakes was called for a penalty to make it four-on-four hockey. After the penalties expired, Crookston would go on the power play, and Garrett Fischer used a slapshot to score for the Pirates to make it 2-1. With under a minute left in the period, Carter Whitworth scored for the Lakers as he made it 3-1. Detroit Lakes would keep a 3-1 lead after the first period. 

SECOND PERIOD
In the second, Kash Benson for Detroit Lakes would make it 4-1 as he scored for the Lakers. Detroit Lakes was called for a penalty, which sent Crookston back to the power play. The Lakers were able to kill it off, and not long after that, Whitworth would score his second of the game to make it 5-1. Crookston went back to the power play, but Detroit Lakes killed it off. Crookston was then called for a penalty, and Detroit Lakes cashed in as Deraney scored his second goal of the game to make it 6-1. Late in the second period, Detroit Lakes was called for a penalty, and they would keep a 6-1 lead going into the third period. 

THIRD PERIOD
To begin the period, Crookston had a little bit of power play time, but the Pirates had it killed off. Crookston would get called for a penalty as Detroit Lakes went to the power play. The Pirates were able to kill it off, but right after that, Detroit Lakes scored as Hudson Petit scored for the Lakers to make it 7-1. Both teams after that skated pretty evenly as time expired, Detroit Lakes would advance to the section semifinals with a 7-1 win at home. 

Crookston’s season comes to a close with a 15-11-0 record. Detroit Lakes improves to 12-13-1 and will take on the one seed, East Grand Forks, on Saturday. 

The Crookston seniors are, Carter Trudeau, Jackson Reese, Kadin Edwards, Ty Larson, Lucas Miller, Koda Donarski, Blake Melsa, Jaden Steinbrink, Dalen Korynta, and Ashton Shockman.
