Polk County Sheriff’s Office warning the public of a scam in the area

On Friday, February 7, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received information from law enforcement in the region regarding a scam affecting our area. Scammers are contacting residents and claiming a family member is in legal trouble, and they need money. The scammers are primarily targeting elderly residents. This scam has been common in our area; however, reports indicate the scammers are potentially imitating “bail bondsman”, sometimes showing up in person to collect the money and other times requesting it by mail.

If you receive a similar call or suspect you are a victim of this scam, you can call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 218-281-0431.
