UMC Volleyball Loses Two Matches in Michigan

The UMC Golden Eagles came up short in a 3-1 (25-14, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21) loss to Northwood University in Northern Michigan tournament in Marquette, Michigan.
In the first set, the match was tied at 1, 2, 3 and Northern Michigan led 10-8 before they went on a 15-6 run to win the set 25-14 to win the first set.
The second set was better for the Golden Eagles, but it wasn’t the start they looked for.  UMC trailed 18-14 when they went on a 7-0 run with three kills from three different players, a service ace and they took advantage of three attack errors for a 21-18 lead.
UMC finished strong and won the set 25-21 on a Katie Lienemann service ace to tie the match at 1-1.
Northwood responded in a big way in the third set by taking a 5-1 and later a 10-3 lead.  UMC settled down and battled back and after a Syd Kruisselbrink service ace, they trailed 18-17.  The Golden Eagles tied the set at 21, but Northwood scored the final four points and won 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, UMC led 7-6 when Northwood scored four straight points for a 10-7 lead.  The Golden Eagles battled back and after three straight kills they tied the set at 15.  The teams were tied at 16 before Northwood ended the match on a 9-5 run to win the set 25-21 to win the match 3-1.

UMC vs MICHIGAN TECH

The Michigan Tech Wolves cruised to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-11) victory in the second match of the day.
Michigan Tech set the tone for the match right away by jumping out to a 5-1 victory.  UMC stayed close and trailed 13-9, but Michigan Tech slowly pulled away for a 25-16 victory for a 1-0 lead.
Michigan Tech took a 3-2 lead in the second set before UMC took the lead with three straight points behind a couple of Tech attack errors and a kill from Deaira Gresham.  The teams went back and forth for a while and UMC led 14-13, but Michigan Tech went on an 11-3 run to win the set 25-16 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Michigan State jumped out to a 7-1 lead.  Michigan Tech led 8-3 when UMC used their first time out and whatever was said in the huddle seemed to work as the Golden Eagles went on a 4-1 run to get within a 9-7 deficit.  Michigan Tech settled down and pulled away for a 25-11 victory to win the match 3-0.
Michigan Tech improves to 6-2 on the year and UMC falls to 2-6 on the year and will start conference play on Thursday when they travel to St. Cloud State University.
