Crookston Baseball splits a DH with Warroad

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team beat the Warroad Warriors 14-6 in the first game of a doubleheader before losing the second game 19-1 in a Section 8AA matchup at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Warroad started the game with a triple. After two strikeouts, Sam Hard singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
Crookston’s Dexter Janek led off the bottom of the inning with a triple, Greyson Ecker walked. and a run scored on a Gavyn Hlucny sacrifice fly for a 1-1 tie. Isaiah Sonarski singled to score a run and Lucas Perala was hit by a pitch. Cody Demarais singled, but the next two batters were retired and Crookston led 2-1.

SECOND INNING-
Warroad was retired in a 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout and two strikeouts.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Ecker tripled and Hlucny walked. The next batter popped out and the Pirate threat was over.

THIRD INNING –
Warroad’s Mayfield reached on an error with one out before Schreivt doubled. After an out, Hard singled to score two runs for a 3-2 lead.
Crookston’s Perala started the bottom of the inning with a single. Demarais walked, and Nolan Cassavant singled to load the bases. Tarek Siegle walked to score a run for a 3-3 tie. Davin Janek knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly before his brother Dexter doubled to score a run for a 5-3 lead. Ecker and Hlucny walked to score another run for a 6-3 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Warroad was retired in a 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a groundout.
Crookston added more runs in the bottom of the inning with singles from Cassavant, Siegle and reaching on an error was Davin Janek and the bases were loaded. A run scored on a Dexter Janek sacrifice fly. Ecker walked, but the next batter was retired.

FIFTH INNING-
Warroad added two runs with a double, an error, a triple and a ground out to ta get within a 7-5 deficit.
Crookston’s Perala and Demarais singled to score a run. Cassavant and Siegle walked before Davin Janek singled to score two runs for a 10-5 lead. Dexter Janek singled to score a run and Ecker hit a sacrifice fly to score a run for a 12-5 lead.

SIXTH INNING-
Warroad added another run in the sixth inning on a double to get within a 12-6 deficit.
Crookston’s Demarais and Siegle singled before Davin Janek tripled to score two runs for a 14-6 lead.

SEVENTH INNING-
The first two Warroad batters reached on an error and a walk before the next three batters were retired and Crookston won the game 14-6.

Game 2

FIRST INNING-
The first Warroad batter was retired before the Warriors broke the game open. A triple and an error scored a run. Another single scored a run, and after an out, two singles and a triple scored three more runs for a 5-0 lead.
Crookston’s Ecker walked but was caught stealing. Hlucny was hit by a pitch before Donarski and Perala walked to load the bases. Demarais reached on an error, and a run scored to bring the Pirates within a 5-1 loss.

SECOND INNING-
Warroad’s Chamernick singled, and Schreiner doubled to score a run. After an out, Hard singled, Mayfield walked, Huntvet doubled to score two more runs for a 9-1. Thompson was hit by a pitch, and another run scored on a fielder’s choice. There was a walk and a hit-by-pitch before a double scored three more runs for a 13-1 lead.
Crookston’s Davin Janek singled with one out beore the next two batters were retired.

THIRD INNING –
Warroad’s Hard walked and Mayfield singled. After an out, Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A walk scored another run for a 14-1 Warrior lead.
Hlucny walked before a line out and a double play ended the inning.

FOURTH INNING-
Warroad added another run with a singled and a sacrifice fly for a 15-1 lead.
Crookston loaded the bases with a hit by pitch and two singles, but the next batter struck out to end the inning.

FIFTH INNING-
The first two batters were retired before a single, a dropped strike three allowed another Warrior to reach. A singled scored two runs for a 17-1 lead. A hit by pitch and a single scored a run. Another single scored a run for a 19-1 lead.
Crookston’s Donarski singled, and with two outs, Masen Reitmeier walked, but the next batter struck out and the game was over with Warroad winning 19-1.

Crookston ends the regular season with a 6-11 record. Warroad is now 11-6. It looks like Crookston will be at Park Rapids in the first round of the Section 8AA baseball tournament on Tuesday.
