The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team ran into a very good Sacred Heart Eagle team and were swept 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-7) in a Section 8A matchup played in the Sacred Heart school gymnasium in East Grand Forks. Sacred Heart came into the match off a big 3-0 win over Ada-Borup/West on Tuesday in a rematch of the Section 8A championship last season.
Sacred Heart made a statement in the first set, cruising to a 25-8 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match. “We had a lot of unforced errors and struggled with our serves,” said Pirate Coach Ashley Stopa.
Sacred Heart cruised to another big win in the second set with a 25-10 victory. “Our communication was on point, our hustle was on point and the girls didn’t give up on any points,” said Coach Stopa. “We had some big blocks and Allie Love came up with some nice blocks.”
In the third set, Sacred Heart flexed their muscles again and cruised to a 25-7 victory to win the match 3-0. “The girls fought hard and our serve receive did a pretty amazing job. We just had a lot of unforced errors. They had some big blockers that he hit into instead of around,” said Coach Stopa. “Dani Boyle gave us some pretty good digs and serve receive passes. Sacred Heart is a very good team and they have a lot of weapons.”
Crookston drops to 1-3 on the year and will travel to Thief River Falls on Tuesday. You can hear the match on KROX Radio. Sacred Heart improves to 3-1.
