The Crookston American Legion Baseball team takes on the Fargo Post 2 Jets in their final two games before the Independence Day holiday.
Game 1
FIRST INNING-
The Jets led things off with a double, and after a groundout, consecutive walks loaded the bases. After this, a two-out walk scored the first run of the game for Fargo, before a Matt Contreras strikeout ended the inning.
Crookston was retired 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first on two groundouts and a strikeout.
SECOND INNING-
In the second, after a leadoff walk, a sacrifice walk and a lineout got Crookston two quick outs. After this, though, things began to fall apart. A hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases, and after a bases-loaded walk made it 2-0, Fargo scored four combined runs on two consecutive Crookston errors, suddenly making it 6-0 Jets as the inning mercifully concluded.
Crookston got a two-out single from Nolan Cassavant, their only hit of the game, in the bottom of the inning, but otherwise were set down quietly.
THIRD INNING –
In the third inning, Fargo led off with consecutive walks, and then with two outs, the Jets were able to come through with a two-out single, increasing the lead to 8-0. They threatened again with runners on the corners, but a popout ended the threat, preventing any further damage.
Crookston led off the bottom of the inning with a hit batsman, followed by a fielder’s choice to put one on with one out. Davin Janek then barreled the ball, but it went straight to the first baseman, who stepped on the bag for a double play to end the inning.
FOURTH INNING-
Both teams were set down in order in the fourth inning on a flyout and two strikeouts.
FIFTH INNING-
A single and a walk led off the fifth inning for the Jets, and then another single from Isaac Mosbrucker drove in the two baserunners, putting Fargo up 10-0. Then, after yet another hit batsman, a two-run double put the Jets up 12-0, before new pitcher Ethan Lanctot got the next two batters out to end the frame.
Crookston was set down in order in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Jets a 12-0 victory via run-rule.

Game 2
FIRST INNING
Three straight walks started game two for the Jets, who then got a sacrifice fly to open the scoring. An RBI single then made it 2-0, followed by two consecutive wild pitches that scored two runs, giving Fargo a 4-0 lead before Crookston had an opportunity to bat in the game.
Parker Kelly led off the bottom of the first with a single, and then after a strikeout, Matt Contreras hammered one over the right field fence for a two-run homer, cutting the lead to 4-2. Crookston would be sent down in order after that.
SECOND INNING
In the second inning, Fargo was able to manufacture a run, as they got a one-out single, followed by a stolen base, an advancement on a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly, going up 5-2 before Lanctot got a strikeout to end the inning.
Crookston got a two-out walk in the bottom of the inning from Gabe Perala, but were otherwise set down in order.
THIRD INNING –
As the third got underway, Fargo looked to continue to threaten with a couple two-out singles, but fortunately Lanctot was able to induce a force play to second, ending the threat.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Contreras just missed a second home run, delivering a triple. Greyson Ecker then walked, but a strikeout followed, ending the inning with no Crookston runs.
FOURTH INNING-
In the fourth, two batters were quickly retired before an error kept the inning alive. Lanctot held firm, though, and got a groundout to end the inning.
Crookston was retired in order in the fourth on two strikeouts and a groundout.
FIFTH INNING-
In the fifth inning, the wheels completely fell off for Crookston. Fargo scored ten runs in the inning, six of which with two outs. They score three runs on singles, three runs on doubles, two on walks and two on wild pitches, and by the end of the barrage took a 15-2 lead.
Crookston got a two-out single from Davin Janek in the bottom of the frame, but were otherwise set down quietly, and Fargo won again, this time by a 15-2 score.
