The Fertile-Beltrami Falcon Volleyball team had a great start and kept rolling the rest of the match as they cruised to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-11) victory over the Crookston Pirates in a match played at the Fertile-Beltrami High School gymnasium.
FIRST SET
The teams were tied at 2 and 3 before Fertile-Beltrami went on a 7-0 run behind four straight kills by Mya Erickson for a 10-3 lead. The teams exchanged points and Fertile-Beltrami led 15-9 before they finished the set on an impressive 10-3 run. The run started with a Miley Fladhammer kill before Macy Petry served up an ace and Erickson added two kills for a 19-9 lead. The Pirates scored three of the next four points before the Falcons ended the set by scoring the final five points with two points coming on Erickson kills and one point on an Indigo Oistad block and the Falcons won 25-12.
SECOND SET
Fertile-Beltrami jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a Fladhammer kill, a Bailey Iverson ace, and two more kills by Petry. After two Crookston points, the Falcons went on a 6-1 run that was capped by a Breezy Iverson kill for a 10-3 lead. Fertile-Beltrami led 17-7 when Oistad, Petry, and Fladhammer had kills for a 20-7 lead. The Falcons led 21-10 when Grace Hendrickson recoreded a kill on her first attack and after Crookston was in the net, Petry added a kill.
THIRD SET
Fertile-Beltrami jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a Bailey Iverson ace and a Breezy Iverson kill. After the Falcons had a passing error, Brynna Kopecky served up an ace to tie the set at 2-2. Fertile-Beltrami responded by scoring the next seven points. The run started on a Fladhammer block. After two Crookston errors Fertile-Beltrami’s Mya Erickson had a kill and Petry had a kill and an ace for a 9-2 lead. Crookston responded with three straight Abi Bruley kills to get within a 9-5. The teams exchanged points and Fertile-Beltrami led 11-7 when they went on a 13-0 run. The run started with an Erickson kill and a Petry block for a kill. After Crookston was called in the net, Bailey Iverson and Erickson teamed up for a block. Crookston hit in the net and then had four hits before Petry served an ace, Oistad, Bailey Iverson had kills and Erickson added two more kills for a 22-7 lead. Crookston hit another attack out of bounds before Bailey Iverson capped the run with a kill for a 24-7 lead. Crookston brought in several new players and Adalyn Hanson sparked a run for Crookston with a kill, Brea Lessard had a dig for a kill before the Falcons hit out of bounds twice and the Pirates trailed 24-11. Fertile-Beltrami finally got that 25th point and won the set 25-11 to win the match 3-0.
Crookston drops to 1-6 on the year and will travel to Oklee on Thursday to take on the Red Lake County Central Mustangs, a match you can hear on KROX Radio. Fertile-Beltrami improves to 6-2 on the year and will travel to Moorhead to take on Park Christian on Tuesday.
