CAPITOL UPDATE FROM REPRESENTATIVE DEB KIEL

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Here is an update with the latest news from St. Paul.

Omnibus Bills

Next week, we will start seeing DFL omnibus bills on the House floor. The first three to be voted on will be Education, Jobs and Energy, and Health and Human Services. These bills have a lot of problematic provisions, including a $68 million cut to funding for nursing homes and a total of $12 billion in tax increases across all omnibus bills.

Town Hall Meetings

With the Legislature on break this week, I was able to spend some time back up in Northwest Minnesota meeting with constituents. On Monday and Tuesday, I held six town hall meetings in East Grand Forks, Crookston, Fosston, Warren, Thief River Falls, and Grygla. We had great turnout and I enjoyed hearing from those who attended. The main concerns that constituents brought up were the negative impact of the gas tax on farmers and rural Minnesotans, and the high need for solutions to the childcare crisis in Greater Minnesota. We also heard concerns about the Democrats’ proposed cuts to nursing home funding and the unsustainable growth of government.

Easter

This Sunday is Easter, and I want to wish you all the very best for the holiday. I look forward to spending time with loved ones and reflecting on the meaning of the day, and I hope you are able to do the same.

Thank You

I want to thank everyone who attended the town hall meetings. Your input and ideas are invaluable, and I appreciate the time you took to attend. If you were unable to make it to a meeting, please know my office is always available. Please do not hesitate to call or email. I am here to serve you!

Sincerely,

Deb
