Red Lake County American Legion baseball cruises to a 9-0 victory over Crookston

The Red Lake County American Legion Post 22 Baseball team out-hit Crookston Post 20 10- 4 and cruised to a 9-0 victory on Tuesday evening at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Isaiah Donarski struck out the first two batters he faced to begin the game, but then a walk, a single, and a hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Cain Cardinal. He delivered an infield single, scoring a run to make it 1-0 RLC, before a flyout to center ended the inning, leaving the bags loaded.
The first two Crookston batters were also set down, before Matt Contreras ripped a single to center field. Unfortunately, he would then be picked off to end the inning, keeping the score 1-0.

SECOND INNING-
RLC looked to threaten again in the top of the second inning, getting two runners in scoring position with one out. A comebacker back to Donarski recorded the second out, but just like the first inning, RLC capitalized wth two away. Ben Gullingsrud drove in two to make it 3-0, and a bases-loaded walk to Cardinal then made it 4-0 RLC before a great play by Parker Kelly at third base ended the threat.
Crookston was retired in order in the bottom of the inning on a strikeout and two groundouts.

THIRD INNING –
Just as was the case in the first couple of innings, RLC had two runners in scoring position with two outs. Gullingsrud was up, and he once again delivered, driving in two with a double to make it 6-0 RLC. He would then score on an RBI triple from Kegan Schmitz, making it 7-0 before a strikeout ended the frame.
Crookston once again set Crookston down in order, this time on a pop-up and two groundouts.

FOURTH INNING-
Donarski set RLC down in order in the fourth inning with three groundouts.
In the bottom of the fourth, Contreras delivered a two-out single for his second hit of the day, before a force play ended the inning.

FIFTH INNING-
In the fifth, after a one-out single, a throwing error brought the runner all the way around to make it 8-0. After a pitching change, another throwing error scored another run, and RLC took a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the inning, Crookston got off to a great start with a single by Davin Janek and a walk. However, a bizarre runner’s interference play followed by a lineout double play ended the inning almost as fast as it started.

SIXTH INNING-
Red Lake County got a two-out walk from Gunnar Broden in the sixth inning, but otherwise were set down quietly.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Dexter Janek reached with a two-out single, but that would be all the offense they would muster, as Ben Gullingsrud continued to roll.

SEVENTH INNING-
RLC led off the seventh with a single by Denny Lanctot, but the next three batters were retired in order.
Crookston was set down in order in the seventh, giving RLC a 9-0 win and Ben Gullingsrud a shutout.

Crookston drops to 7-9 on the season, while RLC improves to 3-0.
