Red Lake County and TRF beat Crookston to end the season

The Red Lake County Legion Baseball team pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of 12 free bases to beat the Crookston American Legion Baseball Post 20 8-1 in the first round and Thief River Falls scored five runs in the sixth inning to beat Crookston 9-5 in a loser-out game at the of the Northwest Sub-state Tournament in Fosston.

FIRST INNING-
Red Lake County’s Gunnar Halvorson singled with one out, stole second base and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Ben Gullingsrud walked and stole second base before the next two batters were retired.
Crookston’s Parker Kelly led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Matt Contreras blasted a line drive off the right field fence for a double and runners were at second and third base. The next three batters were retired.

SECOND INNING-
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before they got a two-out rally going. Denny Lanctot and Boe Nelson walked before Will Gieseke doubled to the left-center field gap to score a run. Gunnar Halvorson doubled to the left-center field gap to score two runs, and Red Lake County took a 3-0 lead.

Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a ground out.

THIRD INNING –
Red Lake County’s Kegan Schmitz led off with a double down the right field line. After a groundout moved Schmitz over to third base, Colin Taggart singled to center field to score a run for a 4-0 lead. Taggart was caught stealing before Lanctot walked, and the next batter struck out.
Crookston’s Carter Fee led off the bottom of the inning, getting hit by a pitch. Parker Kelly laid down a beautiful bunt, and the throw to first sailed into right field, and Crookston had runners on second and third base. Contreras hit a fly ball to left field to score a run to get within a 4-1 deficit. The next two batters struck out.

FOURTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Gieseke led off the inning with a double, a pitch hit Halvorson before he stole second base. On the throw to second, Gieseke stole home to give Red Lake County a 5-1 lead.
Crookston’s Melsa led off with a walk, and Lucas Perala reached on an error before the next three batters struck out.

FIFTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Riley Broden singled and moved over to second base on a Taggart sacrifice bunt. Lanctot singled, and a pitch hit Boe Nelson. The next two batters were retired.
Crookston’s first two batters were retired before Teagen Lubinski walked, and a pitch hit Gavyn Hlucny. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice and the inning was over.

SIXTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud walked before Brock Seeger crushed a line drive over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run and a 7-1 lead. After a walk and a double play. A pitch hit Taggart, Lanctot singled, and a pitch hit Nelson. The next two batters were retired.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, ground out, and a pop out.

SEVENTH INNING-
Red Lake County’s Gullingsrud and Seeger singled before a pitch hit Schmitz to load the bases. The next batter popped out before Crookston turned a doubleheader to end the half-inning.
Crookston’s Isaiah Donarski reached on a one-out walk. The next two batters were retired and the game was over with Red Lake County winning 8-1.

Crookston drops to 11-14 on the year and will take on Thief River Falls in a loser-out game. Red Lake County improves to 10-5 on the year and will play Fosston in the winners bracket game.

Crookston vs TRF

FIRST INNING-
Thief River Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two groundouts and a strikeout.
Crookston’s Parker Kelly led off the game with a double to center field, and Matt Contreras doubled to the centerfield fence to score a run and Crookston led 1-0.

SECOND INNING-
TRF’s Dylan Osowski walked before he was picked off on a nice move by Crookston pitcher Gavyn Hlucny. Noah Gonzalez doubled to right-center field before the next batter hit into a double play.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two ground outs and a fly out.

THIRD INNING –
TRF’s Bridger Wilcox walked and stole second base. A sacrifice bunt moved Wilcox over to third base. Ryan Flaagan walked before Gannon Zutz singled to score a run. Cole Johnson knocked in another run on a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. Another run scored on a wild pitch and TRF led 3-1.
Crookston’s Carter Fee was hit by a pitch with one out before he was caught stealing. Kelly singled before the next batter flew out.

FOURTH INNING-
A pitch hit TRF’s Osowski before the next batter hit into a double play. The next batter lined out to centerfield and the half-inning was over.
Crookston’s Teagan Lubinski led off the bottom of the inning with a double and tried to stretch it into a triple, but Thief River Falls’ Zutz had a great relay to get the out at third base. A pitch hit Hlucny before he was caught stealing. Melsa walked before the next batter grounded out.

FIFTH INNING-
Thief River Falls’ Wilcox singled and Cooper Skjerven walked. After an out, Gunner Zutz singled to score a run for a 4-1 lead.
Crookston’s Donarski led off with a single and stole second base. Nolan Cassavant doubled to left-center field to score a run. The next two batters were retired before a pitch hit Contreras and Lubinski singled to load the bases. Hlucny singled to score a run to bring Crookston within a 4-3 deficit. TRF tried to pick off the runner at first and on the throw, Jay Reese (courtesy runner) tried to score and looked like he slid in before the tag, but the umpire disagreed and called him out and the inning was over.

SIXTH INNING-
TRF blew the game open when a pitch hit Bodhi Mossestad. After an out, Gonzalez singled to score a run, Jameson Hurst walked, and Wilcox singled to score another run. Skjerven singled to score two runs and after a Flaagan walk and an out, Johnson singled to give TRF a 9-3 lead.
Crookston’s Melsa singled before the next three batters were retired.

SEVENTH INNING-
TRF was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three groundouts.
Parker Kelly doubled before Matt Contreras hit a line drive over the right field fence for a two-run homerun to get within a 9-5 deficit. The next two batters were retired and the game was over with TRF winning 9-5.

Crookston’s season ends with an 11-15 record. TRF will play the loser of Ada and Warroad at 11:00 AM on Sunday.
