The Crookston Pirate Baseball team gave up seven runs in the first inning to the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels and never recovered in a 10-1 loss in a Section 8AA matchup at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
FIRST INNING-
DGF broke the game open in the first inning when Alex Anders reached on a walk, and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. After a ground out, Cayson Bergee reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Wes Hoover followed with a single and Tanner Cadwell walked to load the bases. Jace Baumgartner and Logan Thune walked to score two runs. Zander Deutsch reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed another run to score. Camden Schrieber singled to score a run before Alex Anderson singled to score another run for a 7-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts in the bottom of the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Crookston’s Carter Fee came into pitch and he gave up singles to Bergee and Hoover before getting the next batter to fly out. Baumgartner reached on an error to load the bases. The next batter struck out looking before Fee got the next batter to ground out.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts.
THIRD INNING –
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two flyouts to centerfield and a ground out to shortstop.
Crookston was also retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning with a fly out to center field, a line out to left field, and a ground out.
FOURTH INNING-
DGF was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a flyout to left field, a ground out to shortstop, and a ground out to third base.
Crookston’s Matt Contreras led off the bottom of the inning getting hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Parker Kelly reached on a fielder’s choice. The next batter lined out to left field before Fee hit a dribbler up the middle for a base hit and the bases were loaded. Isaiah Donarski was hit by a pitch to score the first Pirate run of the game.
FIFTH INNING-
DGF led off the fifth inning with a walk and a Thune double. The next batter, Deutsch, grounded out to third and a run scored and the Rebels led 8-1.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Contreras was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. Nolan Cassavant reached on an error and Crookston had runners at second and third base. Parker Kelly hit a line drive down the first baseline, but the Rebel’s Thune made a diving catch to get the third out of the inning.
SIXTH INNING-
DGF started the inning with Bergee reaching on an error, Hoover and Cadwell singled and a run scored. Cadwell scored on another error and the Rebels led 10-1.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a pair of strikeouts and a pop out.
SEVENTH INNING-
DGF’s Deutsch started the inning with a single before the next two batters struck out. The next Rebel batter hit into a fielder’s choice for the third out of the inning.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a line out, and two ground outs as the Rebel’s pitcher, Dylan Anderson picked up the complete game one-hitter while striking out eight Pirate batters and not giving up a walk.
Crookston drops to 1-4 on the year and will take on Ada-Borup-West on Tuesday in Ada. DGF improves to 6-1 on the year.
