Crookston Baseball splits doubleheader with Roseau

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team lost the first game 13-4, but bounced back to beat the Roseau Rams 11-10 in a Section 8AA doubleheader at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Roseau got things going in the top of the first inning when Trey Mertens singled with one out. Chase Bachleitner followed with a line drive down the right-field line for a triple. The Crookston throw to third was off the mark and Bachleitner scored to give the Rams a 2-0 lead.
Crookston answered in the bottom of the inning when Matt Contreras singled. After an out, Gavyn Hlucny tripled over the center fielder’s head for an rbi triple. Lucas Perala was hit by a pitch and Greyson Ecker walked to load the bases. Carter Fee drew a walk to knock in a run to tie the game at 2-2.
With bases loaded and one out, the next Crookston batter hit into a double play and Roseau got out of the inning.

SECOND INNING-
Roseau was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Crookston’s first two batters were retired before Contreras tripled. The next batter flew out to the catcher and the inning was over.

THIRD INNING –
Roseau’s Bachleitner singled with one out, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, stole third base, and scored on a double steal for a 3-2 lead.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Ecker was hit by a pitch. Ecker was caught stealing at second base and the inning was over.

FOURTH INNING-
Roseau broke the game open in the top of the inning when Jack Jerome singled with one out. Bo Paulson reached on an error on the third baseman and Austin Baumgartner walked. Trey Mertens hit a bloop single over the second baseman’s head to score a run. The Rams blew the game open when Bachleitner blasted a shot over the right-center field fence (over the 347 sign) for a grand slam to give Roseau an 8-2 lead.
Crookston’s Isaiah Donarski reached on an error but was out on a ground out and the next batter was retired and the inning was over.

FIFTH INNING-
Roseau continued add to their lead with an AJ Klint single, Jerome and Bo Paulson walked. A run scored on a wild pitch and another run scored on another wild pitch for a 10-2 lead.
Crookston’s Contreras led off the bottom of the inning with a triple and he scored on a wild pitch. Hlucny and Perala walked with one out, but the next two batters were retired and the Pirates traield 10-3.

SIXTH INNING-
Roseau added two more runs in the sixth inning when Eli Wensloff singled, Tucker Kvien was hit by a pitch and AJ Klint tripled to score two runs for a 12-3 lead.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Cody Demarais singled to left field, Contreras walked and Parker Kelly singled to score a run to get within a 12-4 deficit.

SEVENTH INNING-
Roseau added an insurance run when Trey Mertens singled and scored on a Wensloff single for a 13-4 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion and Roseau won the game 13-4.

Game 2 –

FIRST INNING-
Roseau was retired in 1-2-3 fashion to start the game. Crookston’s Matt Contreras started the bottom of the inning with a walk. After an out, Gavyn Hlucny singled and Lucas Perala was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A run scored on a passed ball and Crookston took a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Roseau’s first two batters, AJ Klint and Tucker Kvien walked. A run scored on an error. After a strike out, Jack Jerome hit a line drive to center field and the ball was dropped and another run scored. Two more runs scored on wild pitches and Roseu led 4-1.
Crookston answered in the bottom of the inning as Carter Fee was hit by a pitch, Cody Demarais walked before he was picked off at first. Nolan Cassavant and Contreras walked to load the bases. Parker Kelly singled to score a run, another run scored on a wild pitch, and a fourth run scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 4-4. Hlucny walked and Kelly scored on an error before Hlucny scored on a Perala ground out for a 6-4 lead through two innings.

THIRD INNING –
Roseau’s Tucker Kvien was hit by a pitch before Eli Kvien singled. Tucker Kvien advanced to third base on a passed ball and scored on an error. Eli Kvien scored a run to tie the game at 6-6.
Crookston’s Carter Fee led off the bottom of the inning with a double to center field and scored on an error for a 7-6 lead. Nolan Cassavant walked and moved to third base on an error and scored on a wild pitch to give the Pirates an 8-6 lead.

FOURTH INNING-
Roseau’s Wensloff and AJ Klint started off the inning with walks before Crookston made a pitching change and brought in Parker Kelly. Tucker Kvien led off with a hit before Kelly retired the next two batters.
Crookston’s Lucas Perala struck out but reached on a passed ball. Isaiah Donarski singled to center field and Perala scored on a Greyson Ecker ground out for a 9-6 lead.

FIFTH INNING-
Roseau’s Austin Wiskow led off the inning with a single. Anton Klint reached on an error and Chase Bachleitner singled to score a run. After a walk, another runs cored on a ground out to tie the game at 9-9.
Crookston bounced back with singled by Cassavant and Contreras. After Hlucny was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Peral walked to score a run and Crookston led 10-9.

SIXTH INNING-
Roseau had a thre in the top of the inning with three walks and with one out, Parker Kelly struck out the next two batters and the Pirates took a 10-9 lead into the bottom of the inning.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

SEVENTH INNING-
Roseau’s Wensloff started the inning with a single. A sacrifice bunt advanced Wensloff to second base. Buchwitz reached on an error and after an out, Jerome reached on the second Pirate error of the inning and a run scored and the game was tied at 10-10.
Crookston needed a run to win the game. Cassavant started the inning with a single. Contreras followed with a single and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Hlucny hit a fly ball to left field and Cassavant scored as Crookston won the game 11-10.

Crookston is 1-3 on the year and 1-1 in Section 8AA play. The Pirates will host Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday. Roseau is now 2-5 on the season.
