The Crookston Pirate Baseball team had a good start to the game and took a 1-0 lead to start the game, but Sacred Heart broke the game open by scoring three runs in the third inning and 10 more in the fourth inning to win the game 14-2 in five innings at Stauss Park in East Grand Forks.
FIRST INNING-
The first two batters of the game flew out to left field before Crookston’s Gavyn Hluncy singled and stole second base, before Isaiah Donarski singled to score a run for a 1-0 lead.
Sacred Heart responded in the bottom of the inning when Blaine Johnson reached on a walk. After the second out of the inning, Liam Larson singled to score a run and the game was tied at 1-1.
SECOND INNING-
The First two Crookston batters were retired before Aiden Delage walked and stole second base. The next batter flew out, and the Pirate threat was over.
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts.
THIRD INNING –
Greyson Ecker led off the inning for the Pirates with a single. He advanced to second on an error and moved to third base on a wild pitch. The next three batters were retired.
Sacred Heart took the lead in the bottom of the inning. Grady Horken led off with a single and advanced to second on a balk. Isaac Sundby doubled to score a run for a 2-1 lead. Sundby stole third base and scored on a Blaine Johnson sacrifice fly for a 3-1 lead. After an out, Liam Larson singled and was followed by a Micah Zavoral single to score another run for a 4-1 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Crookston’s Nolan Cassavant drew a walk to lead off the inning. The next two batters were retired before a Pirate was caught stealing to end the half-inning.
Sacred Heart broke the game open in the bottom of the inning with Jace Motl reaching on an error, and that was a sign of things to come. Joey Erickson singled to score a run. Grady Horken singled, and Isaac Sundby walked to load the bases. The Pirates made a pitching change, and the next batter popped out, and another run scored for a 6-1 lead. Nick Satterlund reached on a fielder’s choice, Liam Larson knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice. Micah Zavoral walked to load the bases before Asher Zavoral walked to score a run for a 7-1 lead. Jace Motl, batting for the second time in the inning, walked to score another run for an 8-1 lead. Joey Erickson reached on an error and another run scored. With bases loaded, Horken walked to score another run for a 10-1 lead. A run scored on a wild pitch with another run scoring later for a 12-1 lead. Isaac Sundby doubled to score two runs for a 14-1 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s Dexter Janek hit a line drive to left field for a single, advanced to second base on a ground out, and scored on a Gavyn Hlucny single to get within a 14-2 deficit, but that is as close as the Pirates were able to get and Sacred Heart Eagles won 14-2.
Crookston drops to 2-4 on the year and will play Kittson County Central on Thursday. Sacred Heart improves to 4-2 on the year.
