The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team competed in the Section 8A North Sub-section meet in Park Rapids today. The top three teams and the top six players not on the top three teams advanced to the Section 8A Golf Tournament next week in Bemidji.
Garrett Fischer shot an 87 to lead the way for Crookston and earned himself a spot in the individual section tournament next week. However, as a team, Crookston was unable to advance posting a score of 374 which earned them a 6th place finish. The three teams advancing to the Section 8A Tournament were Roseau, Warroad, and Thief River Falls.
8th grader Garrett Fischer led the way for the Pirates posting a score of 85. Fischer shot an incredible front nine score of 37 which was just +1. He carded two birdies on the front nine, on the 321-yard par-four first hole, and the 516-yard par-five ninth hole. Along with that, he recorded four pars and three bogeys. On the back nine, he would shoot a 50 for a total score of 87 which was good enough to advance to the individual section tournament next week.
Ashton Shockman was next for the Pirates shooting a total score of 94. On the front nine Shockman had one par, six bogeys, and two double bogeys for a score of 46. On the back nine, he carded one birdie on the 368-yard par-four twelfth hole, and added one par, five bogeys, a triple bogey, and a nine on the 398-yard par-four sixteenth hole, for a score of 48 to finish his round. Shockman’s 94 wasn’t quite enough to advance in the individual section tournament as he was one stroke off of the final spot.
Brannon Tangquist carded a solid 96 for the Pirates shooting a 46 on the front nine, and a 50 on the back nine. On the front nine, Tangquist had a birdie on the 425-yard par-four sixth hole, along with one par, four bogeys, two double bogeys, and a triple bogey. On the back nine, he had three pars, three bogeys, a double bogey, and two 9s including one on the par-five 481-yard eighteenth hole.
Hunter Nicholas was the last score the Pirates used as a team. On the front nine, Nicholas had a birdie on the par-four 348-yard second hole, along with four bogeys, a double bogey, and three triple bogeys for a score of 50. On the back nine, Nicholas shaved off three strokes for a 47 with two pars, four bogeys, two double bogeys, and a triple bogey for a total score of 97.
Also competing for the Pirates in the meet were Blaine Andringa and Connor Maruska. Andringa had two birdies on the round but a costly 13 on the 357-yard par-four seventh hole ruined his overall score and saw him shoot a 101. Maruska shot a 105 for Crookston with two pars on the round, both coming on the back nine.
