CROOKSTON BOYS SOCCER SCORES ONCE, BEATS PELICAN RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team only scored one goal, but that is all they would need as they beat the Pelican Rapids Vikings 1-0 in a Section 8A matchup played in Pelican Rapids.

FIRST HALF –
Crookston came out strong in the first half with a lot of energy and controlled play for the first 10 minutes of the game before Kaden Edwards had a beautiful pass to Caden Boike who bent it like Beckham into the upper left corner of the net past a leaping Viking goalie for a 1-0 lead. “Kaden had a great pass and set it up nicely,” said Pirate Coach Lon Boike. “Caden had a great kick and it went in.  It was really a great play to give us the lead.”
Crookston had several more scoring chances, but didn’t find the back of the net and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. “We came out strong and played a great first half,” said Coach Boike. “It was one of our best efforts of the year and it was great to see us playing well again.”

SECOND HALF –
Crookston continued to put some pressure on the Pelican Rapids defense, but started kicking the ball down the field late in the game to keep Pelican Rapids away from the offensive zone.  Pelican Rapids was able to put a little bit of pressure on the Pirates defense and Blake Melsa was up to the task as he stopped all nine shots on goal in the game. Blake Melsa did an outstanding job in goal making 9 saves,” said Coach Boike.
Crookston was able to hold on to win the game with a 1-0 victory and a nice section victory.
“It was an outstanding win in a well-played and tight game! Our defense was outstanding and did a great job of shutting them down,” said Coach Boike. “This is a great win for us as we have not beaten PR since I have been coaching soccer.”

Crookston improves to 2-5 on the year and will travel to Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
