The Crookston Pirates Boy’s Tennis team was able to get past Osakis with a 5-2 victory in their last regular season match. The Section 8A match was played in Detroit Lakes. “We changed our lineup a little bit and it worked out,” said Pirates Tennis Coach Pat Janorschke. “Everyone played really well.”
The Pirates were able to get a win in third singles with George French winning in two sets. “He had to step up with our lineup change with Jack moving to doubles and he did,” said Coach Janorschke. “He hasn’t really played singles so for him to get a win was great.”
They were also able to get a win in fourth singles with Osakis not filling the spot.
Crookston swept the doubles matches only losing a total of eight games in the three matchups. “It isn’t easy to play doubles with a new partner and a couple of them handled it well,” explained Coach Janorschke. The doubles teams for Crookston were Jack Garmen and Mason Owens, Nathan Kelly and Evan Christensen, and Isaac Thomforde and Reggie Winjum. Jack and Mason swept their matchup without giving up a game. “We moved Jack to doubles and it worked… they communicated well,” added Coach Janorschke. “I am not sure if we will keep the lineup like this for the tournament… it’s nice to have versatility.”
Crookston finishes their regular season schedule with a 3-16 record. There will be a coach’s meeting held on Wednesday to determine seeds for the Section 8A Team Tournament beginning on Monday. The team tournament will be on Monday and Tuesday and the individual tournament will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.
