The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team won their second match of the year with a 4-3 victory over Grand Rapids before losing to Bemidji 7-0 in a triangular played in Bemidji.
CROOKSTON VS GRAND RAPIDS
Crookston had their best singles performance of the year with three wins along with a doubles victory for a 4-3 victory over Grand Rapids. Blake Fee won at second singles, Tanner Janorschke won easily at third singles and Mason Owens won at fourth singles. “It was good to see those guys come up with the wins,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “Blake got a little frustrated in his match, but settled down and finished strong. Tanner played well in his match and was in control most of the way and Mason Owens continues to come into his own at singles with another nice match.”
The first doubles team of Nick and Jack Garmen cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win. “They played together again and they like to play with each other from time to time,” said Coach Brekken. “They played well to pick up the win.”
The Pirates continue to play well and won their second straight match. “We were the better team and the kids might have overlooked them right away and then loosened up and started playing better the rest of the match,” said Coach Brekken. “The guys keep showing improvement and that is what we like to see this time of year.”

CROOKSTON VS BEMIDJI
A short turn-around seemed to hamper the Pirates as they were shutout by the Bemidji Lumberjacks 7-0 in the third dual of the season between the two teams. “You could tell in the match that we weren’t really excited to play Bemidji for the third time this season,” said Coach Brekken.
Crookston was competitive at fourth singles with Mason Owens losing in three sets. First doubles, Blake Fee and Logan Wardner, lost 6-4, 6-1 and the third doubles team also had a competitive match 6-3, 6-2. “Mason is coming into his groove and really played well for us,” said Coach Brekken. “The two doubles team had some competitive matches, but Bemidji is so good from top to bottom.”
Crookston will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at the East Grand Forks triangular to play East Grand Forks and Fergus Falls.
