CROOKSTON CAPITILIZES ON POWER PLAY TO WIN 5-1 OVER BAGLEY/FOSSTON

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team scored three power-play goals on their way to a 5-1 win over the Bagley/Fosston Flyers in the Bagley Hockey Arena.

FIRST PERIOD
Both teams started with opportunities, as the Pirates headed to the power play early. Crookston had a few chances, but Flyers goalie Kyle Johnson kept the game scoreless. Crookston would get called for a penalty, which gave the Flyers a man advantage. Bagley/Fosston utilized the power play as Logan Dillich fired his shot into the net to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Blake Melsa had a shot that Kadin Edwards redirected, but Johnson had to make a big save. The Pirates would get a few shots later in the period, but Johnson stood tall to keep the Pirates off the scoreboard in the first. Bagley/Fosston would hold a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

SECOND PERIOD
The Pirates would start the second with a great chance early as Jay Reese slipped a pass to Carter Trudeau out in front, but his shot went just wide of the open net as Crookston still trailed 1-0. Crookston would strike as Lucas Miller received a pass from Melsa, and Miller buried it into the back of the net to tie the game at one. Bagley/Fosston would get called for a five-minute major for a hit to the head as Crookston took advantage, scoring just nine seconds into the power play. Riley Benson fired a shot from the point that Johnson saved, but Jay Reese, from his knees, fired the puck into the net to give Crookston a 2-1 lead. Crookston would score again as Teagen Lubinski blasted a shot that rang off the crossbar and went in for a 3-1 Pirates lead with just 25 seconds left in the period. Crookston would head to the third with a five on three as the Pirates drew another penalty on top of the major, holding a 3-1 lead.

THIRD PERIOD
The Pirates got a quick goal from Teagen Lubinski on the two-man advantage. Lubinski took the puck by himself into the offensive zone for the Pirates, scoring his second goal of the night for Crookston
and giving them a 4-1 lead early in the third. After the penalty ended, Parker Kelly had to make two saves as the Flyers fired two quick shots, which Kelly saved to keep it at 4-1. Crookston’s Ty Larson picked up the puck on the boards, took a few steps in, fired his shot from the point, and scored his first goal of the season to give Crookston a 5-1 lead. The Flyers headed to the power play later in the period, but Crookston killed off the penalty. Bagley/Fosston went to the power play again in the game’s final minute, but Crookston was able to kill that off and pick up a 5-1 win.

Crookston improves to 7-5-0 on the season and will host Warroad on Thursday on the KROX YouTube Channel. Bagley/Fosston drops to 4-7-0 on the year and will take on Mayport (N.D.) on Thursday.
