CROOKSTON GIRL’S SOCCER GETS A SHUTOUT WIN AT PELICAN RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Soccer team had a solid all-around game on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Pelican Rapids Vikings in a game played in Pelican Rapids.

Crookston controlled play for most of the first half and outshot Pelican Rapids 8-3.  The only goal of the half was when Crookston’s Reese Swanson had a corner kick and Kailee Magsam took the ball and kicked it in the net 15 minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. “Kailee was the energizer bunny,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “She was all over on defense and offensively.”
Crookston controlled play the rest of the half, but the Pelican Rapids goalie came up with some nice saves and the Pirates took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Crookston couldn’t have asked for a better start as Keona Arnold took a corner kick and scored four minutes into the half to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.  Crookston was able to play everybody that dressed and they continued to play well.  The Pirates weren’t able to score for 32 more minutes when Maddie Harbot got a nice pass to Emily Boucher, who found Cassie Solheim who kicked it past the Pelican Rapids goalie for a 3-0 lead with four minutes left in the game. “Emily played in the second half,” said Coach Reese. “She played with tenacity and confidence at forward.” Crookston held on for the 3-0 victory against a section 8A opponent. “We played 80 solid minutes and everyone saw playing time,” said Coach Reese. “Passing keeps improving – more white to white possession passing, more runs off the ball tonight.”

Crookston improves to 2-1 on the year and will host Detroit Lakes on Thursday.
