CROOKSTON PIRATE BOYS SOCCER GETS SHUTOUT BY EGF

The Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team could not put a shot in the back of the net as they fell to East Grand Forks. The Green Wave scored their lone goal on a penalty kick in the Section 8A matchup in East Grand Forks.

FIRST HALF
The first five minutes saw even play. Crookston started putting pressure on the East Grand Forks net. Jack Everett had a shot on goal in the eighth minute, but it was saved. Jay Reese had a shot one minute later, but it was barely wide of the net. Reggie Winjum had a shot in the 11th minute, but it was saved. Thirty seconds later, Crookston had a free kick on the East Grand Forks side of the field, but they were unable to get a shot off. Brannon Tangquist had a shot in the 12th minute, and Lucas Miller had a shot one minute later, but both went wide. It was even play for the next few minutes until Crookston got another free-kick, but the keeper saved it. In the 28th minute, Crookston got a corner kick, and Dalen Korynta had a shot, but it was saved. East Grand Forks started to gain momentum and took it into the Crookston side of the field. Blake Melsa made two saves in the 31st minute, and the next eight minutes saw even play. Crookston had a free kick in the final minute of the half, but they could not get a shot off. Kadin Edwards got a shot off with five seconds to go, but the Green Wave goalie made an excellent jumping deflection to keep Crookston off the scoreboard. The match went into halftime with the score tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF –
East Grand Forks came out in the second half and dominated early possession. In the 46th minute, the Green Wave got a corner kick but could not get a shot. In the 50th minute, East Grand Forks got a penalty kick, but the shot went wide. Three minutes later, Crookston got a yellow card, and East Grand Forks had a chance at a penalty kick. Cooper Hills took the shot and made it, giving the Green Wave a 1-0 lead.
Crookston got a free kick in the 55th minute, but they could not get a shot off. Three minutes later, East Grand Forks had a corner kick and got a shot off, but Melsa made the save. In the 61st minute, Jackson Reese had a shot, but it went wide. Reese had another shot two minutes later, but it was blocked. The next ten minutes saw even play, with neither team having a shot on goal. In the 73rd minute, Everett sent a through ball into the East Grand Forks box, but the keeper made the save. Crookston got a corner kick one minute later, but they could not get a shot. In the 76th minute, Everett had a shot, but it went wide. That was Crookston’s last shot on goal, and East Grand Forks held on for a 1-0 victory.

Crookston falls to 5-7-2 on the season and is now getting set for postseason play.
