PIRATE SOFTBALL FALLS TO ROSEAU AND PARK RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Softball team played two quality opponents and lost both games at the Park Rapids Softball tournament.  The Pirates lost 17-3 in five innings to Roseau in the first game and they lost 21-0 in four innings to #8 ranked Park Rapids in the second game.

CROOKSTON vs ROSEAU
The Roseau Rams broke the game open with 10 runs in the fourth inning on their way to a 17-3 victory over Crookston in the first game of the Park Rapids tournament.

Roseau scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Crookston answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.  Kenze Epema started the inning with a single, Allie Love walked and Ashlyn Genereux singled to score Epema for the first Pirate run.
Roseau added three more runs in the second inning. Crookston added a run in the bottom of the third inning to get within a 6-2 deficit.  Epema singled again and Jenna Coauette doubled to score Epema for the Pirates second run.  “Kenze was busy today,” said Pirate Coach Robbe Nessler. “She had some nice at-bats and scored a couple of runs.  She really had a nice first game.”
Roseau blew the game open in the fourth with 10 runs for a 16-2 lead.  “Roseau had some nice hits and took advantage of some walks and hit batters to score their runs,” said Coach Nessler. “We were missing three players today because of other proms and graduation open houses, so we put some of our bench players in and that was good to get them in.” Crookston added another run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 13 runs.  Amber Cymbaluk and Jasmin Hanson singled and Cymbaluk came into score on a pass ball for the Pirates third run of the game.”
Roseau added another run in the fifth and the game was called because of the run rule after the fifth inning with Roseau winning the game 17-3.  “Roseau was tough from top to bottom on the offensive end,” said Coach Nessler.  They are also strong on the defensive end and are a very good team.”

CROOKSTON vs PARK RAPIDS
The Crookston Pirates struggled against the #6 ranked Park Rapids Panthers in a 21-0 loss in four innings in the final game of the Park Rapids tournament.  Crookston didn’t have a hit in the game and committed 11 errors in the game on their way to the loss.  “We made a couple of errors and it just seemed to snowball,” said Coach Nessler. “The girls were beaten down a bit with two lop-sided games and you can tell it was taking a toll on the girls.”
Park Rapids scored five runs in the first inning and added four more in the second for a 9-0 lead after two innings. After a scoreless third inning, Park Rapids erupted for 12 runs in the fourth inning and they cruised to a 21-0 victory while pounding 19 hits.  “They were the best team that we have seen so far and the girls really struggled to stay positive because Park Rapids was doing everything well,” said Coach Nessler. “They probably had the best pitcher we have seen so far, they had some of the best hitters and it seemed like everything they wanted to do, they could do.  They are a very good team.”
Crookston drops to 0-10 on the year and will host Grand Forks Central on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
