CROOKSTON PIRATE VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO HAWLEY

The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team ran into a tough test as they fell to Hawley by a score of 3-0 (25-7, 25-2, 25-9) in a Section 8AA matchup at Hawley High School.

FIRST SET
Hawley started on a 6-0 run before Crookston won four straight points from great Mackenzie Funk serves. Hawley went on a 4-0 run before Crookston won the following two points, including great net play from Joey Nesseth. Hawley went on an 8-0 run off of two kills from Isabel Steer and one from Annaka Johnson. Crookston got a point before Hawley closed out the set with a 7-0 run, making it 25-7 and giving them a 1-0 match lead.

SECOND SET
Hawley began the set on an 18-0 run, including three kills, a block from Johnson, and three kills from Ingrad Rustad. Crookston got on the board from a Hawley player hitting it into the net. Hawley won seven of the following eight points, featuring two more kills from Rustad and two from McKenna Walker, giving them a dominant 25-2 set victory and a 2-0 match lead.

THIRD SET
Hawley started the set on a 3-0 run before Crookston won three of the following four points, including a kill from Naomi Johnson. Hawley went on a 5-0 run before a Mackenzie Funk kill gave Crookston a point. Once again, Nesseth had a solid net play to make it 10-6 before Hawley went on a 10-0 run, featuring two Johnson kills, a Katrina Vetter kill, and a Sydney Martin kill, and made the score 20-6. Emma Plante got a kill to kick start a 3-0 run that included an Emily Bowman ace. Hawley won the last five points, including a match-winning kill from Steer to give Hawley a 25-9 set win and a 3-0 match victory.

Crookston falls to 2-14 and heads to Warroad for a match next Tuesday. Hawley improves to 10-3.
