PIRATE INDIVIDUAL TOP FINISHES-
THIRD-PLACE
At 172 pounds, Carter Coauette started with a pin against Hutchinson’s Connor Kurth in 1:52. In the second round, Coauette won by a 15-6 decision against Hibbing’s Cooper Hendrickson. Coauette lost by a 9-4 decision in the third round and fell to the consolation bracket.
Coauette began his lower-bracket run with an 8-7 decision over Big Lakes’ Charles Mikely and a 1:24 pin against Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus’ James Cummings. In the consolation semi-finals, Coauette beat another Pequot Lake/Pine River/Backus wrestling, Earl Stockman, in a 6-0 decision. Coauette beat Rock Ridge/Virginia’s Damien Tapio in the consolation finals in a 3-1 decision to take home third place.
FIFTH-PLACE
At 139 pounds, Gavyn Hlucny won his first match by pinning Payneville’s Preston Welling in 1:34. In the second round, Hlucny beat Noah Christen from Sauk Center/Melrose in a 12-0 decision. Hlucny lost to Millie Lacs’ Carter Adickes in the third round and fell to the consolation bracket.
In the consolation bracket, Hlucny beat Aitkin’s Jackson Cline with a pin in 0:39 and beat Big Lake’s Dallas Sibbet in a medical forfeit. Hlucny lost to Totino Grace’s Austin Herbst in a 7-2 decision to fall to the fifth-place game. In the fifth-place match, Hlucny had a rematch against Adickes, and this time, Hlucny got the win by an 11-1 decision and took home fifth place.
EIGHTH-PLACE
At 285 pounds, Riley Helgeson started with a bye before losing to Paynesville’s Kevin Raya Botello by a pin in 1:24. In the consolation bracket beat Hutchinson’s Kyler Haugen by a pin in 1:58. In the next round, Helgeson beat the #7 ranked Harley Weber out of Belgrade/Brooten/Elrosa in an Ultimate Tie-breaker 4-3. Helgeson then lost Millie Lacs’ Brodie Kuhlman ina 5-4 decision. In the seventh-place game, Helgeson lost to Big Lake’s Trajan Mussehl by a pin in 1:25, giving Helgeson an eight-place finish.
