Wadena-Deer Creek cruises to a Section 8AA tournament victory over Pirate Softball

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines came out swinging and scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised the rest of the way for a 15-0 victory in four innings in the first round of the Section 8AA Softball tournament in Wadena.

FIRST INNING
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion to start the game.
WDC came out swinging in the bottom of the inning as the leadoff batter Isabelle Lehmkuhl singled and scored on an Ashley Pavek triple. Jada Dykhoff followed with a line drive off the right-center field fence for an rbi triple and a 2-0 lead. Karley Haverkamp reached on an error, and a run scored. Haverkamp stole second and third base and scored on a passed ball. After an out, McKenna Brauch and Silia Rinio both walked and scored on passed balls for a 6-0 lead. After the second out of the inning, Alyssa Carr walked and scored on an error for a 7-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
Brynna Kopecky drew a one-out walk before the next two batters were retired.
WDC’s Pavek started the bottom of the inning with a single and a stolen base and scored on a ground out for an 8-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
Ally Wagner singled with one out to give the Pirates their first hit of the game, but the next two batters were retired by strikeout.

WDC’s Rinio singled and Lilly Parker walked to get things going in the bottom of the inning. A run scored on a wild pitch and another run scored on a passed ball for a 10-0 lead. Lehmkul and Pavek walked before Dykhoff doubled to score two more runs. Dykhoff scored on a ground out and the Wolverines led 13-0.

FOURTH INNING-
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strike out, a ground out to second base, and a ground out to right field.
WDC just needed two runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game. Crookston brought in Brea Lessard to pitch and the retired the first two batters. Carr walked and scored on a Lehmkuhl single for a 14-0 lead. The next batter walked before Dykhoff singled to right field to score a run for a 15-0 victory.

Crookston’s season comes to an end with a 3-12 record and there were no seniors on the team. WDC improves to 18-3 on the year.
