CROOKSTON TRACK SENDS TWO GIRLS IN THREE EVENTS AND FOUR BOYS IN THREE EVENTS TO STATE MEET

The Crookston Pirates are sending a total of six athletes in six different events to the Minnesota State Track Meet. Noah Kiel made it in three events, Emma Borowicz made it in two events, and Breanna Kressin, Easton Tangquist, Caden Boike, and Ethan Boll are going in one event.
Overall, the girls team finished in third and the boys finished in seventh out of all the teams competing.

Noah Kiel ran in three races at the Section meet in Park Rapids and he made it to State in all three. He made it in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash and as the anchor for the 4×100 relay. When asked about his start out of the blocks in the 100 dash Noah responded, “Personally, I think this was my best start of the year.” He went on to say, “I was a little nervous because I knew there were some really fast kids in that race.” Coach Wayne Folkers agreed with the sentiment on Kiel’s start of the race saying, “He was great out of the blocks. It was like he was shot out of a gun.”
Noah beat his previous 200 meter dash time by 0.2 seconds with a time of 22.50 seconds. “I knew that I needed to get off to a quick start in the first 100 meters to have a chance,” added Kiel. “I ran the first 100 meters like it was its own race and gave it everything I had.” Coach Folkers added, “The same happened in the 200 with the great start and that race wasn’t really close.”
Noah was joined on the relay team by Ethan Boll, Easton Tangquist, and Caden Boike. This relay team bested the team’s previous high by 0.47 seconds with a time of 45.27.  See video of the race below. “We were in fourth place when we handed off for the final 100, but Noah was able to pass them all to take first,” explained Coach Folkers. “We had a bad handoff going into the third 100 and if we correct that we can see an even better time. We could get into the 44’s.”

Emma Borowicz made it in one field event (pole vault) and one track event (300 meter hurdles). Emma maintained her pole vault height of 9-02. “I have always wanted to make it in pole vault and two years ago I lost on a scratch so it was good to come out on the other side this year,” said Borowicz. “I now have a week and a half to improve my height and I have high hopes for it.” Coach Amy Boll added, “She is so tough, and she is such an athlete. She did well with the pole vault and attacking the pit.”
She beat her previous 300 meter hurdles time by 0.7 seconds with a time of 46.12. “Two years ago that was my race and this year it’s been my race,” added Borowicz. “It was good to cross the line of course in second but also with a state qualifying time which was the goal coming into today.” Coach Boll said about Emma, “She is one that on this team we are going to seriously miss that girl as a leader and just her ability in this sport.”

Breanna Kressin got the running events off to a good start for Crookston by winning the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.98 seconds. “I definitely have had better races. They change the faster heat to the second heat in sections so I wasn’t really used to that,” said Kressin. “Overall, I ran a clean race and I thought I did pretty good.”
When asked about Breanna’s race, Coach Boll said, “Harley (hurdles coach) and Breanna talked and Harley said she can do better and right away she was trying to work on those things.” Coach Boll went on to say, “I think she is so mentally strong. She takes the tips she’s given and fixes them right away.”
