Crookston Wrestling falls to Hillsboro and beats Thompson

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team lost to Hillsboro/Central Valley 47-30 and beat Thompson 46-21 at the Hillsboro/Central Valley triangular. Crookston filled two more spots in the lineup so instead of giving up five spots (30 points) before the match started, they were down three matches (18 point) and that helped them with a close loss and a big win on the day.

CROOKSTON vs HILLSBORO/CENTRAL VALLEY
Crookston lost the first match at 107 with an open weight. Crookston’s Jose Contreras won his match at 114 pounds by a forfeit. HCV bounced back to win the next four matches with two pins and two forfeits for a 30-6 lead. The Pirates battled back to win the next three matches, with Jose Arriaga winning by a pin in the second period at 145 pounds, Gavyn Hlucny continues his great start to the season as he won by an injury default and Jaron Knutson was in the line-up and picked up a win by pin in the first period to get within a 30-24 deficit. HCV won the next three matches to take a 47-30 lead. In the final match of the dual, Crookston’s Riley Helgeson won by a pin, and Crookston lost the dual 47-30.

CROOKSTON vs THOMPSON
Thompson won the fist two matches of the dual with a forfeit and a decision for a 9-0 lead. Crookston’s Gabe Perala won by a forfeit at 121 pounds and after a double forfeit, Thompson won by a forfeit and a pin for a 21-6 lead. Crookston took over the match as they won the final seven matches of the dual. The run started with Jose Arriaga winning by a decision, Gavyn Hlucny remained undefeated on the season as he won by a pin in 56 seconds. Jaron Knutson, Lucas Perala, and Miles Corneillie all won by pin in less than 30 seconds. The final two matches of the dual were Crookston’s Isaiah Reyes won by a pin in the second period and heavyweight Riley Helgeson won by a pin in 90 seconds and Crookston won the match
46-21.

Crookston is now 2-7 on the year and will host the Rodd Olson Invitational tournament on Saturday at the Crookston High School gymnasium.
