JACKSON WOINAROWICZ SCORES 1,000TH CAREER POINT AS PONIES BEAT WIN-E-MAC

Jackson Woinorawicz scored his 1,000th career point, and the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo (W-A-O) Ponies shot their way to an 84-61 victory over the Win-E-Mac Patriots from Ralph Engelstad Arena on Saturday afternoon.

FIRST HALF –
The Patriots scored the first basket of the game, but the Ponies lit it up in the first four minutes from behind the arc hitting four three-pointers to take a 12-4 lead and force a Win-E-Mac timeout. Leading the charge was Braylee Schroeder converting on three of them. After another three from Schroder made it 15-4, the Patriots finally put an end to the run on a layup from Justin Courneya. The Ponies slowly started to stretch the lead and got it all the way up to 24-8 with good free throw shooting. Win-E-Mac would answer back with a 9-0 run of their own with Justin Courneya scoring all nine points. Fouls became an issue for both teams and a majority of the scoring started to come from the free-throw line as the half progressed. Kaden Pierce would score six straight points for the Ponies mixed in with one three from the Patriots to put the Ponies in front 30-20. Win-E-Mac continued to chip away at the lead and pulled all the way back within four points at 34-30 with one minute remaining in the half. W-A-O would finish the half strong getting a layup from Jackson Woinarowicz, and a three from Adam Mcintyre to take a 39-30 lead into the halftime break. Leading the way for the Ponies in the first half was Braylee Schroeder with 17 points and five of the teams seven made three-pointers. Justin Courneya poured in 16 points to lead Win-E-Mac and keep the Patriots in the game.

SECOND HALF –
The two teams traded a few baskets back and forth to start the half, and after a Jackson Woinorawicz and one, the Ponies were in front 46-36 with 14:29 remaining. The Ponies ramped up the defensive pressure in the second half, and it paid off as they turned Win-E-Mac over time and time again resulting in easy layups the other way. The Ponies athleticism was too much for the Patriots, and they would use a balanced effort in the second half to win the game 84-61. Late in the second half Jackson Woinarowicz would convert a layup which would earn him his 1,000th career point. The Ponies took a timeout to celebrate the accomplishment as the crowd cheered. Woinarowicz finished with 17 points, and Braylee Schroeder made six three-pointers on his way to a 21 point game. Justin Courneya delivered 35 points in the loss for the Patriots.

The Ponies improve to 5-0 on the season. Win-E-Mac falls to 1-5 with the loss.
