LUBINSKI RECORDS 5 POINTS IN PIRATE BOYS HOCKEY VICTORY OVER BISMARCK

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team dominated play for most of the game in a 5-0 victory over the Bismarck Demons on the first day of the Thief River Falls Holiday Classic at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.

FIRST PERIOD
Crookston ran into trouble early as they committed a holding penalty, and Bismarck went on the power play one minute into the game. The Pirates were able to kill the penalty but soon became short-handed again when they committed another penalty five minutes later.
Crookston still outshot Bismarck in the first period by a 10-3 margin while being short-handed several times, but the teams were scoreless going into the first intermission.

SECOND PERIOD
Crookston continued to put pressure on the Bismarck defense, and it finally paid off over seven minutes into the period. Kadin Edwards finally got the Pirates on the board with a goal for a 1-0 lead.
Crookston continued to put pressure on the Demon defense, and Jackson Reese added a second Pirate goal with over four minutes left in the period for a 2-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Conner Hanson added another Pirate goal. The goal was Hanson’s first of his varsity career, and Crookston built a commanding 3-0 lead late in the period.
Bismarck was able to get seven shots on goal in the period, but Crookston goalie Parker Kelly was able to stop each shot.

THIRD PERIOD
Crookston got off to a fast start, scoring 19 seconds into the period. Teagan Lubinski, who had assists in all three second-period goals, received a nice pass from Garrett Fischer to score a goal, giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Greyson Ecker found the back of the net on a nice goal, with Lubinski recording his fourth assist of the game to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead.
Crookston continued to dominate play the rest of the game, and the Pirates cruised to a 5-0 victory.

Crookston improves to 5-3-0 on the season and will take on Lake of the Woods on Thursday in the final days of the Thief River Falls Holiday Classic. Bismarck falls to 1-7 on the season.
Bismarck got to Thief River Falls late because of the weather, and there was no J.V. game.
