Minot State Shuts Out UMC Soccer

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) women’s soccer team was held without a shot on goal as the Minot State Beavers dominated throughout the 90 minutes in a 4-0 win in an NSIC match played at Herb Parker Stadium in Minot, ND.
Minot State was aggressive with possession early nearly scoring just 1:20 into the match when Daniela Fonseca (Jr., Glendale, AZ) fired a shot across the goal mount, underneath the dive of Minnesota Crookston goalkeeper Athena DiMario Done (Soph., Windsor, Ontario), but the ball hit square on the far post and ricocheted out into the field of play keeping the match scoreless. Just three minutes later a lengthy cross from the right corner of the field sent in by Haley Berryman (Sr., Ephrata, WA) connected with an unmarked Sofia Lewis (Soph., Minot, ND) in stride allowing the midfielder to strike a shot into the left side of the net giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead. In the 19thminute Sofia Lewis scored her second goal of the afternoon pushing the host’s ahead 2-0.
In the second half, Sofia Lewis completed her hattrick with a brilliantly placed shot across the goal into the far side of the net from 10-yards out to give Minot State a 3-0 lead 54:36 into the match. In the closing minutes of the game, the Beavers closed the game out with one final goal as Gabriela Fonseca (Soph., Glendale, AZ) found Jannely Rangel (Sr., Lindsay, CA) who put her shot into the net to close out the 4-0 win. UMC managed just two shots in the 90 minutes, neither of which was on target, while Minot State took 12 shots on goal in the win.
The Golden Eagles fall to 1-9-2 overall and 1-6-2 in NSIC play. Minnesota Crookston returns to the pitch on Friday when UMC hosts Minnesota State Mankato at 1 p.m. Minot State improves to 6-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play.
