UPDATED 12/27 – 8:45 p.m.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has enacted a no travel advisory on Highway 200 in Norman County between Highways 9 and 75 due to dangerous driving conditions. High winds and blowing snow are causing whiteout conditions. Snowplows will continue to operate for as long as conditions allow, but motorists are advised not to travel that corridor until conditions improve. Earlier tonight, MnDOT issued a no travel advisory for Highway 2 between Crookston and East Grand Forks in Polk County. That advisory is also still in effect.
12/27 – 11:25 a.m. – Polk County Engineer Richard Sanders
“Overnight we had between 5 to 10 inches of snow depending on what part of the county you are in. The snow plows started at 5:00 a.m. this morning plowing our roads and are expected to plow until the winds pick up. At that point, we’ll hopefully either be done or shortly thereafter so we can get back into safety. We don’t want people out there traveling when they can’t see because if you end up stranded in the ditch or on the road people coming up from behind can’t see the stranded vehicle making it more dangerous. We won’t be able to get out with our plows and the sheriff squad cars also can’t get out to someone if they can’t see them as well. Please take this weather warning seriously and stay home if you can.”
