PIRATE BASEBALL DROPS GAME TO PARK RAPIDS 6-2

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team fell to the Park Rapids Panthers on Monday evening 6-2.

FIRST INNING
Park Rapids got things going in the first inning with a one-out double, and after a Pirates error, runners were on first and third. A double steal would score a run, and after another out, a bloop single behind first base plated another run giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead. Crookston got a leadoff single from Carter Coauette in the bottom of the frame, and Ethan Boll was hit by a pitch, but both runners would be stranded on base giving Park Rapids a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.

SECOND INNING
Pirates starting pitcher Gavyn Hlucny quickly retired the first two outs in the top of the second, but back-to-back walks put runners on first and second base. Hlcuny would get a flyout to end the inning and keep the Panthers off the scoreboard. Crookston went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning with two groundouts and a strikeout, keeping Park Rapids in front 2-0 heading into the third inning.

THIRD INNING
Park Rapids put two more runners on base in the top of the third, but once again, Hlucny could work out of the jam and put up another zero for the Pirates. Crookston would get a run back in the third inning with a two-out single from Blake Melsa and an RBI double from Alex Longoria. Ethan Boll would also be hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, but nothing more after that, and Park Rapids would be in front 2-1 after three full innings of play.

FOURTH INNING
Park Rapids would get the run back in the top of the fourth and add another one as well. A leadoff walk, sac bunt, and single put runners on the corners. A groundout to first base for the second out then scored the first run, and an RBI single from Lucas Kritzeck after that plated the second run of the inning to give the Panthers a 4-1 lead.

The Pirates would get a leadoff single from George Widman in the bottom of the inning and after an out, Jack Doda would rope a double putting runners on second and third. Matt Contreras would then get hit by a pitch to load the bases with just one out, but Crookston would leave the bases loaded with a strikeout and a pop-out, wasting the golden opportunity.

FIFTH INNING
Park Rapids saw their opportunity to bust the game open in the top of the fifth and that’s what they did, with a leadoff walk, and one out triple, followed by a single to score two more runs. Crookston got one back in the bottom of the inning as Alex Longoria reached on a throwing error, and Ethan Boll singled him home on a base knock down the right-field line. Boll would be caught stealing third base later in the inning, and two strikeouts after Greyson Ecker was hit by a pitch wrapped things up for Crookston in the home half of the fifth.

SIXTH INNING
With Park Rapids leading 6-2 to start the sixth inning, Tanner Giese would give up just one single and pitch a scoreless inning giving the Pirates some life. Unfortunately for Crookston, they would go down 1-2-3 and Panthers starting pitcher DJ Reichling would record his 9th strikeout of the game in the process.

SEVENTH INNING
Giese pitched another scoreless inning in the top of the seventh retiring the Panthers in order, sending us to the bottom of the seventh inning with Crookston needing at least four runs. The Pirates never threatened and would go 1-2-3 to end the game as Park Rapids picked up the win 6-2.
