The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team traveled to Fergus Falls on Thursday afternoon for a triangular and came away with a 6-1 victory over Fergus Falls and a 7-0 victory over Willmar.
CROOKSTON VS FERGUS FALLS –
Crookston beat Fergus Falls last week 5-2 and bettered the score with a 6-1 victory on Thursday. The Pirates used a different line-up and won three singles matches and all three doubles match.
Crookston used Jack Garmen at first singles and slid Erik Coauette from first singles back down to second singles. Coauette had a terrific match and won two hard-fought sets by 7-5 scores.
The undefeated Isaac Thomforde moved up to third singles for the first time this season and as luck would have it, he played the same opponent as the last meeting with Fergus Falls and the result was the same with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Eighth-grader Reggie Winjum moved down to fourth singles and had no problems with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In doubles, the Pirates won all three matches while the first doubles match was an exciting three-setter. Evan Christensen and Mason Owens teamed up and started off with a 6-4 first set victory. They slipped in the second set with a 6-1 loss, forcing a third set. The final set was tight as Crookston pulled out a 10-7 win.
The second doubles team of Nathan Kelly and Kaleb Armstrong continue their strong play as they won 6-0, 6-3.
The third doubles team of Tim Brule and Sam Widseth, the freshman and eighth-grader, teamed up to win the first set 6-3 before winning a hard-fought second set 7-5.
Crookston won the match 6-1.

CROOKSTON VS WILLMAR
Crookston came out strong and beat Willmar 7-0 while outscoring them 84-7 in the seven matches!
At first singles, Jack Garmen won easily 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Erik Coauette won easily 6-0, 6-0. The second doubles team of Nathan Kelly and Kaleb Armstrong won 6-0, 6-0.
Isaac Thomforde, at third singles, improved to 9-0 on the year with an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory. At fourth singles, Reggie Winjum also won easily with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The third doubles team of Tim Brule and Sam Widseth won 6-0, 6-2, and the first doubles team of Evan Christensen and Mason Owens wrapped up the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Crookston improves to 4-5 on the year and the Hibbing Tournament on Saturday has been canceled due to a 90 percent chance of rain in Hibbing.
