The Red Lake County Rebels’ Ben Gullingsrud outdueled Fertile-Beltrami Falcons’ pitcher Drew Gullickson as the Rebels won the game 3-0 in the Section 8A West sub-section baseball tournament in Red Lake Falls.
FIRST INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Bryer Strem led off the game with a walk, but the next three batters were retired with two flyouts and a strikeout.
Red Lake County’s Ben Gullingsrud reached on an error before the next batter lined out to center field and the game was scoreless after the first inning.
SECOND INNING-
The first two Falcon batters were retired before Teegyn Johnson walked, but the next batter struck out.
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before Owen Chervestad walked, but the next batter hit into a fielder’s choice.
THIRD INNING –
Fertile-Beltrami’s Kane Oistad led off the inning with a single up the middle before he was retired in a fielder’s choice. The next batter struck out and after an Eason Petry walk, a Falcon was thrown out at third base for the third out of the inning.
Red Lake County’s first two batters were retired before Gunnar Halverson singled and moved to second base on a Gullingsrud walk. Halverson stole third base and the throw went into left field and a run scored on the throwing error. Keegan Schmitz followed with a hard hit ball that deflected off the glove of a diving Falcon second baseman for a double that scored another run for a 2-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two flyouts and a ground out.
The first two Red Lake County batters were retired before Denny Lanctot singled and advanced to third base on an error. Lanctot scored on a wild pitch to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead.
FIFTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami was retired in 1-2-3 fashion for the second straight inning with a flyout and two ground outs.
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a groundout and two flyouts.
SIXTH INNING-
Fertile-Beltrami’s Bryer Strem led off the inning with a single and was out on a fielder’s choice. The next batter hit the ball back to the pitcher and Red Lake County turned a 1-6-3 double play to end the half-inning.
Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a ground out, flyout, and a strikeout and took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning.
SEVENTH INNING-
The Fertile-Beltrami Falcons’Caleb Sather walked to lead off the inning before the next three batters were retired with a pop out, strikeout, and pick-off and Red Lake County won the game 3-0.
Red Lake County improves to 18-4 on the year and will take on Sacred Heart at 3:00 PM. Fertile-Beltrami drops to 9-11 on the year and will take on West Marshall at 5:30 PM in a loser-out game.
