FIRST HALF –
Ryan Morris put in the first basket of the game a little over a minute in to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead. The Rebels would respond with a 6-0 run, and after the teams traded a few baskets, the Knights wanted a timeout trailing by a score of 11-9 with 13:09 to play in the first half. It took over two minutes after the timeout for the next points to be scored but once they were they started coming at a fast pace. Ethan Evitts would lead the way for the Knights scoring six straight points. On the other side, it was Gerald Melin pouring in shot after shot to keep Red Lake County in front 18-13, forcing another Knights timeout with 9:46 left in the half. After a Rebels layup, Ethan Evitts would hit a three making it 20-16 Red Lake County. The Rebels would dominate the last nine minutes of the half going on a 19-0 run on their way to taking a 47-25 lead at halftime. There was a six minute scoring drought for the Knights during the run that Leading the charge for Red Lake County was Gerald Melin pouring in 18 points. Owen Chervstad also added 6 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. For the Knights in the opening half, it was Ethan Evitts scoring 12 points and junior guard Ryan Morris adding 8. The Rebels were able to secure 20 first-half rebounds, many of which came on the offensive end helping them take the big lead into the halftime break.
SECOND HALF –
The second half didn’t fair much better for the Knights as Red Lake County started on a 12-0 run to build a 59-25 lead. From that point on the lead never got closer and Connor Duden was able to score 11 second-half points for the Rebels to help lead the way. On the flip side for the Knights, they were able to get six points from Luis Gonzalez and had six different players score in the second half. The lead got above thirty-five points under nine minutes remaining which meant the rest of the game would be played with running time per Minnesota State High School League rules. With that being the case, the second half flew by and Red Lake County would earn its way to a solid 80-42 victory.
Red Lake County improves to 1-2 on the season with the win, while Climax-Fisher falls to 0-4 with the loss.
