RED LAKE FALLS CRUISES TO A VICTORY OVER CROOKSTON VOLLEYBALL

The Red Lake Falls Eagles made quick work of the Crookston Pirate Volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-19) victory at the Robert Matzke gymnasium in Red Lake Falls.

SET ONE –
Both teams were missing some players, but Red Lake Falls’ outstanding serving cause Crookston troubles early on. “We had a rough start, and were too timid,” said Pirate Coach Ashley Stopa. “They had a really good server and that had us rattled the rest of the way.” Red Lake Falls combined some big attacks with the serving and cruised to a 25-8 victory. “We knew we had to come in and play our game and eliminate the errors,” said Red Lake Falls coach Nikki Gullingsrud. “Our serving got us going.  They were spotting and they were tough serves and Jalizah (Kelley) did a good job.”

SET TWO –
In the second set, Red Lake Falls had solid all-around play with solid net play, great defense, and tremendous serving and they jumped out to another early lead.  “We didn’t play together like we normally do,” said  The Eagles continued to build on the lead and won the set 25-9, to take a 2-0 lead.  “I was happy with how we played in the second set,” said RLF coach Gullingsrud. “We want consistency and we got that tonight.”

SET THREE-
Red Lake Falls jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Crookston responded to tie the set at four.  Red Lake Falls led 6-5 when they had some big hits from Sienna Olson, Savanna Nelson, and Gabby Casavan to build a 22-14 lead.  The Eagles started substituting to get their bench players in and that seemed to put a kink in the consistent play and Crookston went on a little run to get within 23-19 after a Mallorie Sundeen kill and a four-hit call on the Eagles. “I thought Emily Funk and Emma Boll did a great job of communicating tonight,” said Crookston Coach Stopa. “My seniors led us tonight, but we still need to work on consistency.”  Red Lake Falls scored the next two points and won the set 25-19 and the match 3-0. “We have kids that need to get in because they have been putting in the time too,” said Coach Gullingsrud. “We let them play and they stopped the run.  I thought both teams played hard, Crookston hustled and my girls played hard and played well as a team.”

Crookston drops to 0-4 on the year and will host Stephen-Argyle on Monday, October 19.  Red Lake Falls improves to 2-1 on the year.
