ROSEAU MAKES 28 FREE THROWS AS THEY CRUISE TO A WIN OVER CROOKSTON BOYS BASKETBALL

The Roseau Rams used a 20-5 run to end the first half, and that proved to be the difference as they beat the Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team 81-60 in a Section 8AA game while spoiling senior night in Crookston.  Roseau made 28 of 34 free throws in the game, 19 of them in the second half to help increase their lead.

First Half
The start of the game was a good one for Crookston as they built a 7-3 lead with a basket from Ryan Abeld and five points from Reggie Winjum.  Roseau cut the deficit to 9-8 after a Max Wilson three-point shot before Crookston responded with a Hunter Nicholas basket and a Tanner Giese three-pointer for a 14-8 lead.
The teams exchanged baskets over the next nine minutes, and Crookston had a 30-28 lead after a Jack Everett basket with 4:26 remaining in the half.  The final four minutes were dominated by the Rams as they ended the half on a 20-5 run.  The run started with a Jordan Borowicz basket and was followed by a Jack Borowicz three-point play and a three-pointer.  Levi Dunham and Gunnar Lund made baskets before Jordan Borowicz added two free throws for a 14-0 run for a 42-30 lead.  The Rams continued to control the final 90 seconds of the half while outscoring Crookston 6-5 to take a 48-35 lead at halftime.

Second Half
The second half turned into a Jordan Borowicz free throw clinic as he made 15 of 19 free throws in the second half as Roseau had a 64-51 lead with 7:32 remaining.  Crookston’s Tanner Giese made two free throws and followed with a three-point play to bring the Pirates within a 64-56 deficit, and it looked like they were back in the game.  Crookston struggled taking care of the ball, making shots, and finding a way to stop Jordan Borowicz from drawing fouls on his drives to the lane, and Roseau pulled away in the final minutes for an 81-60 victory.

Crookston drops to 7-16 on the year and will host Fertile-Beltrami on Monday.  Roseau improves to 6-18 on the season.
