The Section 8AA Boys Basketball standings
Thanks to Minnesota-scores.net for the QRF rankings and section standings below.
Section 8AA Standings
The Section 8AA standings up to Christmas show things are still pretty wide open. There are three undefeated teams, with the defending Section 8AA champion Pelican Rapids Vikings at 6-0. Warroad is off to a 7-0 start with a 3-0 section record, including a big 10-point win over Thief River Falls.. Wadena-Deer Creek has only played three games so far, but hasn’t lost year.
Perham is off to a 4-1 start and currently in second place in the section. You also have East Grand Forks, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, Thier Fiver Falls and Park Rapids at .500 or better. It is still early, but the Vikings are still the team to beat and have a a great coach and a well-rounded team.

The Section 8A Boys Basketball standings and QRF rankings have been updated
Section 8A – West Standings
The top four teams in the West subsection come as no surprise, with Red Lake County going 4-1 while averaging 79.2 points per game. The only loss is a two-point loss to a top 10 ranked Ada-Borup-West. Red Lake County likes to run and gun and has outstanding guard play. They are a tough team to compete with because of the way they can score. Defending Champion Fertile-Beltrami is right behind them with a 5-1 record and the only loss coming to Norman County East-Ulen/Hittderal in a game they would like back. Fertile-Beltrami has the complete package with tremendous guards and skilled big men who are long and cause a ton of problems for opposing teams. When they are healthy, they will be very tough to beat.
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo is 5-2 on the year and not healthy yet. They should get everybody back soon. The Ponies have solid athletes and a lot of upside, especially as we roll into March. Sacred Heart is a team that is once again in the top four. They have height and solid guards and just haven’t put it together for a full 36 minutes yet. It will come, One other team that I expect to be in the top five by the end of the year, are the Stephen-Argyle Storm. They were 100 percent healthy for the first time last week. They have height, athleticism and great shooters. They will be in the top five by the end of the year.
Team | Section | Overall | QRF Value |
---|---|---|---|
Red Lake County | 3-0 | 4-1 | 45.2 |
Fertile-Beltrami | 5-1 | 5-1 | 43.0 |
Warren-Alvarado-Oslo | 5-1 | 5-2 | 35.6 |
Sacred Heart | 5-1 | 5-3 | 33.8 |
Climax/Fisher | 2-1 | 3-2 | 26.3 |
Kittson County Central | 1-2 | 2-3 | 24.0 |
Goodridge/Grygla | 2-3 | 2-3 | 19.5 |
Stephen-Argyle | 2-3 | 2-4 | 17.6 |
Northern Freeze | 0-2 | 1-4 | 17.3 |
Badger/Greenbush-Middle River | 0-4 | 0-6 | 5.8 |
Section 8A – East Standings
The East subsection is wide open this year. Clearbrook-Gonvick is the top team so far with one loss. The lone loss was a 32 point loss to Red Lake County. You also have Northome/Kelliher, Cass Lake-Bena, Fosston, Red Lake in the top five right now. The subsection is wide-open and I would never bet against Cass Lake-Bena making a run in March.
Team | Section | Overall | QRF Value |
---|---|---|---|
Clearbrook-Gonvick | 3-1 | 4-1 | 38.6 |
Northome/Kelliher | 2-0 | 4-1 | 37.0 |
Fosston | 4-3 | 4-3 | 29.9 |
Red Lake | 0-1 | 2-2 | 29.2 |
Cass Lake-Bena | 3-1 | 4-3 | 28.1 |
Bagley | 2-2 | 2-4 | 18.1 |
Win-E-Mac | 2-5 | 2-5 | 14.3 |
Mahnomen/Waubun | 1-2 | 1-4 | 11.9 |
Lake of the Woods | 0-1 | 0-5 | 8.1 |
Blackduck | 0-8 | 0-8 | 5.1 |

JOKES
How much did Santa pay for his sleigh? Nothing. It was on the house.
— — —
A young blonde was on vacation in the depths of Louisiana. She wanted a pair of genuine alligator shoes in the worst way, but was very reluctant to pay the high prices the local vendors were asking.
After becoming very frustrated with the “no haggle” attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the blonde shouted, “Maybe I’ll just go out and catch my own alligator so I can get a pair of shoes at a reasonable price!” The shopkeeper said, “By all means, be my guest. Maybe you’ll luck out and catch yourself a big one!”
Determined, the blonde turned and headed for the swamps, set on catching herself an alligator.
Later in the day, the shopkeeper is driving home, when he spots the young woman standing waist deep in the water, shotgun in hand. Just then, he sees a huge 9 foot alligator swimming quickly toward her.
She takes aim, kills the creature and with a great deal of effort hauls it on to the swamp bank. Laying nearby were several more of the dead creatures. The shopkeeper watches in amazement. Just then the blonde flips the alligator on it’s back, and frustrated, shouts out, “Dang it, this one isn’t wearing any shoes either!”

“I hope you didn’t take it personally, Reverend,” an embarrassed woman said after a church service, “when my husband walked out during your sermon.”
“I did find it rather disconcerting,” the preacher replied.
“It’s not a reflection on you,” insisted the church goer. “Ralph has been been walking in his sleep since childhood.”
