We are officially into the midst of playoff time as we have state girls hockey going, section boys hockey playoffs, and wrestling sections happening. We also have girls’ basketball playoffs starting next week, followed by boys’ basketball.

— — —

There are a lot of area teams ranked in the latest state basketball, hockey, and wrestling rankings! Check out this weeks rankings by clicking the following link – Minnesota High School Rankings – KROX

MILESTONES

Roseau’s Jordan Borowicz scored 70 points on Tuesday night. Only the fifth player in Minnesota High School Boys Basketball history to score 70 or more points in a game. To top it off, Jordan also recorded the 3,000th point of his career in the same game. He is averaging just shy of 36 points per game, leading the state in that category.

Climax-Fisher’s Peyton Hoffman scored her 2,000th career point as a sophomore. (Remember she missed her freshman year because of an ACL injury) Hoffman grabbed the 1,000th rebound of her career earlier this season.

East Grand Forks’ Tatem Votava grabbed the 1,000th rebound of her career this week.

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Women’s Basketball team is down to its last game of the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Bemidji State. If UMC wins, they are in the postseason. If they lose, there is a chance they wouldn’t make it, but Augustana would have to beat SW Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. So a UMC win means they are in and they will be going to Winona State or Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday.

Section 8AA Girls Basketball Standings

QRF Seeded – February 21

The seeding will take place this weekend and there are some huge games as three teams are fighting for the top seed. Perham, DGF, and Frazee are fighting for the top seed.

Perham plays at EGF on Thursday and DGF on Friday. EGF and DGF only game remaining is against Perham.
If Perham wins both they are the top seed, no question. If they lose to EGF and beat DGF they will likely be the top seed. If they lose both, Frazee would likely be the top seed. There is a lot at stake in the final games this week. I don’t see DGF being the top seed just by the numbers.
Menahga looks to have the fourth seed, while Pelican Rapids and East Grand Forks are battling for the fifth seed.
Roseau and Barnesville are battling for the ninth seed.
The fight for the 11th seed is between Park Rapids, Thief River Falls, and Crookston. If Park Rapids beats TRF on Thursday they will be the 11th seed with wins over TRF and Crookston. I don’t see a way Crookston can move in front of Park Rapids, but Thief River Falls can with a win over Park Rapids.

I would say there are six teams that could all win the section tournament. It should be a good one.

Section 8A Girls Basketball- West Standings

QRF Seeded – February 21

It looks like no matter what happens, Warren-A-O will be the top team in the west. They have the cofnerence tie-breaker and will be the top seed.

Sacred Heart will be the second seed, KCC looks like they will be third. Fertile-Beltrami is fourth. The fifth seed will be decided on Friday when RLCC takes on Climax-Fisher. The winner will be the fifth seed and the loser the sixth seed.
It is looking like BGMR will be the seventh seed if they beat Goodridge/Grygla in their last game. BUT, if Goodridge/Grygla beats BGMR it is a toss up for the final four spots! It really is up in the air.

Kelliher/Northome is the top team, almost doubling the next QRF value. They are averaging 87 points per game. They are ranked second in the state.
Lake of the Woods looks to have the second seed at this point. The rest of the seeds are really up for grabs depending on tie-breakers.

University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball’s Spencer Swenson (Fr., Sauk Rapids) has been named the Northern Sun Conference North Division Player of the Week and the NABC/D2CIDA National Player of the Week after leading his team to wins over Minot State and the University of Mary last week.

Swenson averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds per game while adding three blocked shots, two assists and a steal.  He made 23 of his 35 shots from the floor (66 percent) and nine-of-11 at the free throw line (82 percent) in the victories.

Swenson made nine of his 15 field goal attempts, including one from three-point range and six-of-eight at the line in Minnesota Crookston’s 72-69 win over Minot State, adding seven rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal along the way.

Two days later, Swenson posted a career-high 31 points and matched his season-best with 13 rebounds to help the Golden Eagles down UMary 71-66.  He went 14-of-20 from the floor and made all three of his free throws to become the first player in UMC history with five consecutive games with 20 or more points.

The double-double was the fifth of the season for Swenson, who was selected as Player of the Week in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Club Hockey team is heading to Hammond, Indiana for the Central Regional Tournament this weekend. It will be a single-elimination tournament, and UMC must win two games to advance to the National Tournament in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Golden Eagles are the #5 seed and will play #12 seed Sault College of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Sault College was 16-11-0 this season and finished the regular season on a four-game win streak. UMC has a 22-5-0 record,

If UMC wins the first round, they would likely face their big brother, the University of Minnesota Club Hockey team, who beat them in the conference semi-finals.

JOKES

A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl’s place.
A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands.
He then takes of his trousers and washes his hands again.
The girl has been watching him and says, “You must be a dentist.”
The guy, surprised, says “Yes! How did you figure that out?”
“Easy,” she replied, “you keep washing your hands.”
One thing led to another and they make love.
After they have done, the girl says, “You must be a good dentist.”
The guy, now with a boosted ego says, “Sure, I’m a good dentist, How did you figure that out?”

“Didn’t feel a thing!”

During English class, the teacher asks Little Johnny, “Have you ever heard of the word contagious before?”
“Of course, miss,” Johnny replies, “my father actually said it when we were talking yesterday”.
“Can you repeat it for the class and tell us how he used it in a sentence?”
“Yes, miss. We were watching the neighbor take his garbage out when his bin tipped over spilling rubbish all over the driveway, dad said ‘it’s going to take the contagious to pick all that up

The Sunday school teacher is a little concerned that his kids might be a little confused about Jesus, so he asks his class, “Where is Jesus today?”
Suzy replies, “He’s in heaven.”
Mary replies, “He’s in my heart.”
Little Johnny says, “He’s in the bathroom!”
The teacher says, “How do you know this?”
Then Little Johnny says, “Well, every morning, my father gets up, bangs on the bathroom door, and yells, ‘Jesus Christ are you still in there!?’”

— —

Teacher: “Johnny can you use a sentence with ‘definitely’ in it?”
Little Johnny: “Do farts have lumps in them?”
Teacher: “Of course not Johnny?”
Little Johnny: “Then I’ve definitely shat myself!”
