Welcome back to another Sports Feever column and believe it or not, the playoffs begin next week. Section 8A Boys Tennis, Section 8A and 8AA softball, Section 8A Baseball and track will all start the postseason next week.
It has been a short spring sports season, but this week has been great. The unfortunate, but I guess expected, forecast for next week calls for cooler temps and a chance of rain almost every day next week. What else would you expect this spring!!!
It is graduation reception season and the pantry door is full of invites. I apologize to all the party’s I have missed this year (I haven’t made one yet). You get the better part of the Fee family with Tiffany, so it is a win-win. We (My wife Tiff) is getting ready to host Blake’s graduation reception on Sunday afternoon. We have been cleaning the house and garage for two weeks and if you didn’t get an invite and would like to wich Blake well, stop by our house from 1-3 on Sunday.
The Crookston Pirate Girls Track team found out they are going to the State True Team meet after making the meet as the fourth and final alternate. Other items we will talk about is the Pirate/Blue Wave Hockey alumni golf and hockey tourney, the Section 8AA and 8A softball standings, Section 8A Team tennis seeds, high school basketball rule changes and a lot more. Enjoy and good luck to all teams in the playoffs!

The Crookston School District held their long-range planning meeting on Tuesday night and the administration has proposed the district drop the co-op with Fisher in boys and girls hockey.
The school district had a co-op with fisher in baseball and softball several years ago and they dropped the co-op with nobody complaining. They had a chance to cut the hockey co-op at the time, but there were two or three boys and the same amount of girls on Crookston varsity/J.V. teams so they elected not to cut it.
Now the administration is looking at making the cut and they will vote on it at their next meeting on May 28.

The Thief River Falls Norskies have been a nice economic impact on the city of Thief River Falls and has helped them not lose as much on the Ralph Englestad Arena.
Over the past three years, the Norskies has provided over $300,000 in revenue to the city of Thief River Falls. The three-year total is just over $325,000. Most of the money paid by the Norskies is for ice rent or advertising.
In addition to the Norskie checks, the City of Thief River Falls receives 100% of the sales of Norskie game concessions which were at least $70,000 last season.

The National Federation of High School sports has made seven rule changes concerning basketball. Five of the seven rules changes in high school basketball concern player equipment, including new uniform provisions that will be required in the 2024-25 season. All seven rules revisions recommended by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Basketball Rules Committee at its April 23-25 meeting in Indianapolis were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
Effective with the 2024-25 season, the number on the jersey can no longer be the same color as the jersey itself. Currently, the number can be the same color as the jersey if it is bordered by a contrasting color. Despite the contrasting-color border, the committee said the number is still difficult to see in many cases. The other two options in Rule 3-4-3e regarding the color of the number remain in effect. A five-year implementation date was approved to allow schools time to budget for purchasing new uniforms.
Four other changes were approved in Rule 3 – Players, Substitutes and Equipment.
A new rule, 3-5-8, provides recommendations for use of a mouthguard. Though not required, the committee noted that state associations may deem a tooth and mouth protector required equipment.
A note was added to Rule 3-5-5 to permit folding or rolling the shorts at the natural waistband seam. The new language does state that the shorts have to be in compliance with Rule 3-4-5, which restricts uniform pants/skirts to one visible manufacturer’s logo/trademark/reference. Theresia Wynns, NFHS director of sports and officials and liaison to the Basketball Rules Committee, said this addition to Rule 3-5-5 modernizes the rule and allows players to adjust the shorts in a manner that serves no harm to the game or its integrity.
The other equipment changes deal with headbands and hair-control devices in Rule 3-5-4. The maximum width of the headband was expanded from 2 inches to 3 inches to be consistent with the rules for volleyball and accommodate athletes who play both sports. In addition, in 3-5-4d, hair-control devices are not required to meet color restrictions. Wynns noted that a hair-control device goes around the hair only, while a headband goes around the entire head.
In another change, assistant coaches now will be able to go onto the court with the head coach in an effort to restore order when a fight breaks out among players. “It can be difficult for officials to separate players involved in a fight on the court,” Wynns said. “This change will allow assistant coaches to enter the court with the head coach to assist officials in regaining control of the situation and restoring player safety.”
The final change approved by the Basketball Rules Committee is a change in the signal when a held ball occurs. Now, when a held ball occurs, the covering official(s) shall stop the clock using Signal #2 (straight arm, open palm extended) while simultaneously sounding the whistle. “This change should help to alleviate conflicting calls by officials when a held ball occurs,” Wynns said. “We currently raise one arm to stop the clock for everything except the jump/held ball.”

The Christian Laettner Basketball Academy will be conducting a youth basketball clinic in Pillager June 24-26 at Pillager High School.
4th-8th grade 9 am – noon (co-ed)
9th-12th grade 1 pm – 4 pm (co-ed)
Cost is $125, including a water bottle
Register Online at www.theclba.com
Christian Laettner is a retired NBA 13-year veteran whose hall-of-fame career for the Duke Blue Devils is widely regarded as one of the greatest in National Collegiate Athletic Association history. Coach Laettner will provide a fun, learning environment for the committed basketball player looking to improve their game, with a focus on skill development, striving to help players improve their ball handling, and passing, while increasing their understanding of offensive and defensive concepts. There will be great attention to detail on the core fundamentals of the game. Players, nowadays, love to dribble, dribble, dribble the ball. With that in mind, the teaching point this academy will stress the most is “catch the ball, save your dribble-and look to pass first!”. This concept is often overlooked in today’s game with the younger players – so the coaches will stress how ball movement is a key ingredient to a players game and offensive efficiency!

JOKES
Choosing a wife
An older man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.
The first does a total makeover. She goes to a fancy beauty salon, gets her hair done, new makeup; buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.
The man was impressed.
The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much…
Again, the man is impressed.
The third invests the money in the stock market She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.
Obviously, the man was impressed.
The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he’d given her.
Then he married the one with the biggest boobs.
Men are like that, you know.
And on another note!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer’s research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

The wise old Mother Superior from an Irish convent was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her comfortable. She requested some warm milk and one of the nuns went to the kitchen to fetch it. Remembering a bottle of Irish whiskey they had received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened and poured a generous amount into the warm milk.
When she walked back at Mother Superior’s bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more. Before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop.
“Mother,” the nuns asked with earnest, “please give us some wisdom before you die.”
She raised herself up in bed with a pious look on her face and said, “Don’t sell that cow.”

There were three friends that wanted to play golf every Saturday afternoon, but couldn’t because of their wives who bugged them to stay home.
One day, they finally got together on the golf course and were waiting at the first tee when one guy said, “I had to buy my wife a diamond necklace to get to play today!!!”
The second said, “That’s nothing, I had to buy MY wife a new sports car to get out here today!”
The third said, “Boy you guys are a couple of wimps; I didn’t have to buy my wife anything!!!”
They both look at him and ask how he managed that!
The smartest of the three said, “It was easy, when I got up this morning I looked her straight in the eye and asked, “Golf course or Intercourse?”
She threw me a sweater and said, “Take this, it might get chilly out there!”
