SPORTS FEEVER – October 26, 2023

SPORTS FEEVER by Chris Fee of KROX Radio – chrisjfee@yahoo.com

The column is a little short this week becuase I am in New York City for the Marconi Awards and Radio show. The Marconi is the most prestigious award in radio and KROX was one of five finalists for Small Market Radio Station of the Year. There are well over 9,000 small market radio stations including Fargo, St. Cloud, Duluth, Grand Forks, Rochester, etc.

So it is a HUGE honor to be a finalist for the award for the third time since 2019. We didn’t win, but I did get a chance to meet one of the nicest people I have ever met, James Brown (the TV guy not the singer) and Rich Eisen (who is also an extremely nice person). I was amazed on how humble both are and how they are both devoted Christians!

Congratulations to the Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team on its sixth place finish at the state tournament. Crookston lost to St. James 4-2, beat Luverne 6-1, and lost to Providence Academy 4-3. It was a great run and even more impressive with the fact that they were without their top player, Halle Winjum, due to an ACL tear.

Hats off to the Pirates on an awesome season!

JOKES

A traveling salesman goes to a farm house. The farmer goes, I could put you up for one night, but youll have to stay in the barn. So he spends the night there and the next morning the farmer comes in, he goes, Were you comfortable? He goes, I had a great time; I talked to all the animals. He goes, You talked to the animals? He goes, Yeah I spoke to the chickens, they say you collect the eggs every morning exactly at five minutes after six. He goes, Thats exactly right. He says, The horse tells me his name is Otis, youve owned him for 10 years. He goes, Thats incredible. And he goes, I spoke to the cow, the cow says that her name is Elsie and you milk her every morning at exactly 8:30. And then I spoke to the sheep. And the farmer goes, Those sheep are lying.

They were looking down into the depths of the Grand Canyon. “Do you know,” asked the guide, “that it took millions and millions of years for this great abyss to be carved out?”

“Well, I’ll be darned,” exclaimed the traveler. “I never knew this was a government job.”

A lonely 70-year-old widow decided that it was time to marry again. She put an ad in the local newspaper that read: “Husband wanted! Must be in my age group, must not beat me, must not run around on me and must still be good in bed. All applicants please apply in person.”
The following day, she heard the doorbell. Much to her dismay, she opened the door to see a gray-haired gentleman sitting in a wheelchair. He had no arms or legs.
“You’re not really asking me to consider you, are you?” the widow asked: “Just look at you — you have no legs!”
The old gent smiled: “Therefore, I cannot run around on you!”
“You don’t have any arms either!” she snorted.
Again, the old man smiled: “Therefore, I can never beat you!”
She raised an eyebrow and asked intently: “Are you still good in bed?”
The old man leaned back, beamed a big smile and said: “I rang the doorbell, didn’t I?”
