THE U OF M RANKINGS ARE OUT, UMC DROPS WHILE DULUTH RISES

The University of Minnesota was again recognized among the top public schools in the country for undergraduate education in several categories, according to U.S. News and World Report’s latest rankings. Already positioned as one of America’s leading research universities and a global leader in many similar orders, these latest accolades reinforce the U of M’s excellence in educating students and preparing them for future careers throughout Minnesota and around the globe.

The Crookston campus dropped from #1 down to #3 (receiving a score of 62 out of 100) among the 13 Public Regional Colleges in the Midwest. Lake Superior State and Valley State are ranked 1 and 2, respectively. UMC is #32 among all Regional Colleges (Midwest), private or public.

Morris remained No. 8 in Top Public Schools – National Liberal Arts Colleges for the second consecutive year.

No campus rose in the rankings more than Duluth, which climbed 12 spots in the Regional Universities (Midwest) rankings, taking the No. 21 overall spot and No. 4 among public schools. This success comes one year after Duluth ascended eight locations in the overall rankings, meaning UMD has leapfrogged 20 institutions in the past two years to claim its current location.

The Twin Cities campus was named the No. 23 public university in the United States, maintaining its standing in the top 25, a stated measure of success in the University’s student-focused systemwide strategic plan, MP Act 2025. Among all 435 institutions (public and private) considered for the National Universities category, the U of M Twin Cities climbed nine spots to be ranked No. 53 nationally, placing the campus among the top 13 percent of all ranked universities. The University’s excellence in study abroad (No. 22) and the experience it provides military veteran students (No. 30) were also highlighted.

Additionally, a collection of specific Twin Cities programs was honored among the nation’s best in their respective academic disciplines. These included undergraduate programs in chemical engineering (No. 11), Nursing (No. 16), Business (No. 21), Engineering – Doctorate (No. 25), Economics (No. 26), Psychology (No. 27), and Computer Science (No. 33).

The University’s Rochester campus is accredited with the Twin Cities campus. As a result, its information is included in the Twin Cities ranking.
