The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team gave up a 22-0 run halfway through the second half and never recovered as the Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons pulled away for a 75-60 victory in a Northern Sun Conference game played in Crookston.
FIRST HALF –
UMC had a good start to the game and scored the first four points with baskets from Naz Powell (Jr. Nottingham, England) and Ethan Channel (Jr. Beaverton, OR). Moorhead responded with six straight points to take the lead. The teams would battle back-and-forth, but Moorhead would build a lead no larger than five points and led 25-21 with less than five minutes to go in the half. UMC had a little run with a Dylan Hushaw (Soph. Las Vegas) basket followed by a three-point play from Channel, and a three-pointer from Hushaw for a 29-25 lead with 3:03 left in the half. UMC didn’t score in the final three minutes and Moorhead added five points for a 30-29 lead at halftime.
SECOND HALF –
UMC started the second half with a Leonard Dixon (Jr. Damascus, OR) three-pointer for a 32-30 lead, but Moorhead responded with five straight points to regain the lead. UMC would regain the lead several minutes later when Dixon scored nine points in a row for a 47-41 Golden Eagle lead with 12:56 left. UMC held a 51-44 lead with 11-minutes to go in the game and a mix of the turnover bug, and missed shots along with Moorhead dominating the game, the Dragons went on a 22-0 run to take a 66-51 lead with over four minutes left in the game. UMC couldn’t recover as Moorhead held on for a 75-60 victory.
UMC drops to 4-7 on the year and 1-4 in the NSIC. Moorhead improves to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the NSIC.
