The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) women’s soccer team dropped their NSIC opener 3-0 against Bemidji State at Chet Anderson Stadium in Bemidji.
Bemidji State struck first when Alanna Mattson (Soph., Princeton) scored her first goal of the season dribbling in before firing a shot following an assist sent by Melanie Peltier (Jr., Sioux Falls, SD) giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Minnesota Crookston conceded a second goal before halftime when Rachel Norton (Sr., Mounds View) found the back of the net doubling the Bemidji State lead to 2-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the Beavers added a late goal to their lead. In the 85thminute Bemidji State’s Erin Becker (Fr., Andover) passed to Monet Cairns (Jr., Princeton) who slotted a shot past Minnesota Crookston’s Olivia Puttin (Jr., Rogers) to give Bemidji State a 3-0 lead. Crookston failed to hold enough possession while generating just two shots in goal in route to their third straight shutout loss by a final score of 3-0.
The Golden Eagles fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in NSIC play. Minnesota Crookston returns to the field on Friday, September 14 when they play their home opener against Minnesota Duluth at 3 p.m. Bemidji State improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
